Soon - I take it you are going to me a mommy soon...congratulations.
I have to see it too ways...as a philosopher, a psychologist...I have to say no, there are no absolutes in my thinking. Every single thing in life must be viewed though the eyes of the individual perceiving it.
I remember arguing with a friend once over the Bible. She is a Bible literalist, though she has softened on some of that. She insisted that only the King James Version of the Bible is the correct one and its not to be interpreted.
Maybe that works for some, but I tend to think, no one reads the Bible...or anything else, without interpreting it in their minds, based on their own beliefs and life experiences and yes, even looking for support for what we want to believe.
Now...the other side of my brain will say, of course there are absolutes, lol. I am absolutely sitting here. I absolutely have my shoes on...because I can sense it with my five senses, I can see it. Its absolute. Is Science an absolute...do we read it without our own personal bias...no, no more than we do the Bible. Yet I love Science dearly.
Ahh...but which side wins...a little of both is the best I can say.

* That arguement is wrong. Just plain wrong. The saying is there is no absolute truth, meaning that no one can say for certain that God exists or does not exist, Truth is relitive to the beleiver. To the athiest truth is there is not God. To the Christian truth is there is one God, To the pagan there are many Gods. So there is only personal truth.
Anyone who declares this satetment is declaring absolutley that there is not absolute truth is just arguementive and likes to argue and keep you know what stirred up.
One man a long while back told me I was wrong and actually mocked me and ridiculed me(as all christians do) and said I was saying absolutely there is no absolute truth and is not logical and blah blah blah, but when I challenged him to prove that statement he declared he could not because God is absolute truth and God can not be proved or disproved. This proves there is no absolute truth or else it could be proved as I just proved there is only personal truth.
Now there are, absolutes in science like the law of gravity is absolute proof that what goes up must come down. It is also absolute fact that the dinosaurs lived millions of years before humans therefore disproving the Genisis record. *

There is no reason to say that there are no absolutes unless it's absolutely true. And there are instances of absolute truth, so the statement is false. One example of absolute truth is that human beings cannot logically make absolute negative statements.

No, I don't. The answers of mathematical questions are absolute. 1+1 always equals 2 as long as you use identical mathematical systems - that's absolute.

Good and evil is a good example that can show that there are no absolutes
They simply don't exist in reality, at least not outside of the mind that believes in them. They are only judgments passed by the individual from their own unique perspective. What one person sees as bad or evil may seem to be the only logical thing to do from some other perspective. The ideas of both good and evil are point of view specific. This is why people like bush and bin laden are either loved or hated. Bush is seen as good by people who share his fear based thought system. Those who have a compassionate concern for all of mankind often see him as evil.
Bin laden is much the same. He is a villain in much of the western world, but he is somewhat of a celebrated pop star on the Middle East. There are T-shirt shops that sell items with his picture as though he was Jesus. It all depends on your point of view or perspective.
To sum it all up good is the name we give to people who do things that we think we like.
Evil is the name we give to people who do the things that we don’t like.
This is of course based solely on our particular point of view.
Love and blessings

by stating, "there are no absolutes" would make the statement an absolute statement, and therefore contradict itself!
not everything is relative, I believe that there are absolute morals, truths, laws, etc. that everyone is subject to

It's a contradiction. For someone to say
"there are NO absolutes"---unknowingly they just made an absolute statment! Is that statement included or excluded? Its a straight contradiction.

Can one be absolutely sure there are no absolutes?
It is a paradox; that is my reasoning.
Absolutes absolutely exist!
