You have to show that you can do something EVERY day, whether you feel like it today or not. Homework and chores are good ways to show you can stick with something.
I'm sure that everyone is telling you what a huge resposibility being a dog owner is. You can add me to that list. Dogs eat, they poop, they have to get exercise. They bark, they get dirty--gosh do they get dirty!! They have to go to the vet--and that's going to be expensive even if they are healthy. Then they might get sick. And they will eventually die.
You have to show your parents that you understand their concerns about getting a dog. They know about all these things...I mean, they have a kid, right? They just don't want to be stuck with all that crap if you flake out on them.
So, show them you can stick with something.

Getting a dog is a BIG responsibilty. IBefore you beg your parents for a dog, you should take a few factors in. Your dog will need you not just to care for it, but be responsible for it. That means VET, SHOTS, FOOD, POOP, WATER, LOVE, TRAINING, TOYS and sooooooooo much more. Your parents may not want to take on the HOUSE BREAKING of a PUPPY either.
A puppy will need a LOT of training. Your little guy will chew up the house when he/she is teething, plus he/she will pee and poop everywhere until house broken.
If this is the reason why your parents will not let you have a dog, think about getting an older dog. Many are available at the pound and they have tougher times finding homes than puppies. Tell your parents that you want to give a loney dog a good home. That will work too.
As for me: I had the same problem when I was a kid.
I really, really, REALLY wanted a dog and my parents thought that I was too irresponsible to have one.
So I negotiated deal:
I took on jobs of the house like it was a JOB not a CHORE. I told them that I would report to work 3-7 after school every day, MON-FRI. They were my boss and I had to do as they said. I earned some money, but I really should them that I could take care of things if I had too. Not bad for a kid of 7.
A few months later they got me a dog! Of course, they still made me keep my jobs around the house. Plus I had the joy-joy job of cleaning up poop from the back yard. YUCK! I had to take out the trash until I moved out 12 years later! I got to take my dog Cindy with me though.
Good Luck Kiddo!

A dog is a lot of work. They need to be trained, exercised every day, and cleaned up after. They live for 12 years or more. This is more work than you might think! It takes a lot of research, time, and patience to get a dog to be well-behaved, so if you're not into studying, a dog isn't for you. And the whole family has to be in agreement to help train the dog.
But if you really think you can handle the responsibility, show your parents that you're responsible by keeping your room clean, doing your homework studiously, and volunteering at your local animal shelter. There you can walk dogs, groom them, and clean up after them. If you show your parents that you're willing to handle all the dirty work of owning a dog, it might help convince them that you can have a dog.
Do research! Get books from the library and find websites like the one in my source list. Read up on dog training and ownership. If you tell your parents all the things you're learning about dogs, they'll see that you're really serious about this.

Owning a dog is very important while you are growing up. You should really look up information about dogs and study them hard. By studying them hard, I think your parents will see that you really are interested and serious about it. Plus, it will teach you about how to take care of a dog. Learn things like how to train a puppy, what to feed a puppy, how to teach it tricks, and etc. Then share it with your parents everyday! Make them so tired of hearing about getting a dog because you tell them all the things you have learned, that they give in and buy you one.
I have attached a website that explains about how to convince your parents. No gurantees however it may give you some ideas. Good Luck! I hope your next question will be how to do something with your dog!

The best thing that you can do is show them that you will be responsible enough to care for a dog. THOROUGHLY consider adopting a dog from the humane society or private rescue group since there are so many good dogs out there without homes.
Make sure you get good grades, keep you room clean, do extra chores...and then present them with WHY you'll be a good dog owner.

Perhaps they aren't ready for a dog. They are the ones that usually end up caring for the pet after the newness has worn off of the kids in the family. You will be off to college before the dog is a senior. Parents have to consider if THEY can care for the dog properly, or if they even WANT to care for a dog.

Give them a game plan on how you're going to chip in for all the costs of the dog. Let them know that you'll be the one taking care of the dog (walking, feeding, etc). Maybe in doing that they will let you have one.

convince one of your friends with a dog to let you borrow it for a week. if you can show your parents that you are willing to do all the work required to care for the dog for a week, then they should be more open to the idea of you getting one of your own.

show them your responsible. do little things around the house just because. find the right dog. discuss the dog with them and how it would benefit the family to have one. keep your grades up and your room clean. don't complain or talk back or do anything wrong. show them you will take care of it and have everything sorted out. remind them of that thing you did the other day and you help them around the house all the time.

Try by showing how responsible you are willing to be. Tell your parents why you want the dog and that you will take care of it.
