weather the diamonds are certified or not that doesn't mean it is a better diamond. what you need to be looking at is the color and clarity of the stone. you can get the diamond appriased later( that's all a cert is, some one appraised the diamond) You want to look for is a diamond that is either D E F ( colorless), or H I J K ( near colorless) any thing less will start to look yellow. Best bet, hold the diamond next to something white like a peice of paper and look for yellow, you see yellow, you don't want it. Next is clarity, ever look at some diamonds and they look milky, have inclusions, or carbon ( black dots) in them? you don't want that, look for a diamond with a clarity of VS1, VS2, SI1, or, SI2 (VS1 being the best) Anything after SI2 looks horrible, you don't want it. all of these have some kind of imperfection but can not be seen with the naked eye, they would need to be scoped. Not even 1% of all the diamonds mined are IF (internally flawless). When you are shopping for diamonds ask for a loop and how to use it and look carefully. For the record any stone can be certified even if it is a peice of @#$%. That just gives them a reason to charge you a little more. Good Luck

GIA is probally the toughest standard I can sometimes visually see color in those certified J and I from other labs. I've also seen specs in some VS from other labs with no loop or magnification
http://www.pricescope.com/
great site to learn about diamonds
This dosent mean a diamon not certified by a gia lab is no good. It just might be equivalent to one grade down from what you expect if it is checked using GIA standards later.
Find a cut you love, that is probally the most important part

i don't know the answer to your question. I do know that the diamonds from the Canadian north have a little polar bear mark. If I ever buy a diamond, I would choose one with a polar bear mark on it because I would be assured that it is a diamond that has been mined in a humane fashion.

I can honestly tell you GIA & EGL are the 2 best companies for diamond certification. But GIA would have to be the winner between the 2. It is the most world reknown company in the testing, certification, & study of diamonds. Any diamond certified there, is accepted in any jewelry store around the world, and anyone who earns a diploma there, will be hired at any jewelry store in the world. So basically, GIA is the best, hah. EGL would definetely be 2nd best though.
