I mean, no way you can get out of there, it's coming, and NOW!!
How to do this politely?

You excuse yourself to go to the restroom, or an empty area, if possible. If you cannot, they you don't worry about it.

Why? Etiquette says that one is assumed to not be in control of flatulence. Anyone who says or does anything to call attention to it, including the "culprit," is being rude. Everyone is supposed to politely pretend that nothing happened.

This is different from a burp, which one is assumed to be in control of, and requires an "excuse me."

I don't make the rules, but I know about them!

Try to let it out very slowly so the sound is minute. Wait a few seconds then walk away, otherwise the smell will follow you.

do it quietly and leave the area immediately so when the stink hits them, and you are not around, they can't blame you, i've done it lots, my favorite place to rip a bad one that will peel the paint off the walls was at my favorite dance bar. it's funny to watch the people around you notice and not know what to do. as well, there is so many people around, they can't put their finger on who did it. make sure it's quiet, but alot more fun when it really stinks.

Run to the bathroom, or just blame it on whoever is standing closest to you.
