Cleanse, exfoliate, medicate, moisturize.
Use noxema to wash your face and use a buff puff. Use a toner after you wash your face to cleanse and shrink your pores. Use a combination of acne products with benzoyl peroxide, salicilic acid and alpha hydroxy to treat your acne (use twice a day). Use an oil-free moisturizer for daytime and a heavier moisturizer at night. You need to moisturize even though you have acne because dry/dead skin will clog your pores and make your acne worse.

I had acne from about 13 to about 43. That's 30 years, so I really know what I'm talking about.
I went to dermatologists and tried tons of treatments. Sometimes it would get better for a while, but nothing permanent, nothing satisfactory.
Then one day I decided to try a completely different approach. Instead of trying to fight the acne directly, I'd try changing the composition of my skin.
I bought two products from Darphin, a French maker of (expensive) cosmetics:
1) Gel Mousse Purifiant (Purifying Foam Gel).
2) Vital Protection Fluide De Jour
Within two weeks, my skin was amazingly different. It wasn't just that the acne was disappearing, the skin didn't even look the same. It looked..... healthy.
From that day, I never had to spend lots of time with astringents, exfoliants, acne creams and looking at blackheads. My skin was permanently transformed.
And when I say permanently, I mean that the Darphin products somehow made my skin inhospitable to acne and blackheads, and the type of skin I have now simply does not produce them. So, you don't have to use these products for more than a few months. You won't just be treating a problem, you'll be curing it.
When you see them in the store (I go to Neiman Marcus), you might be tempted to just turn around rather than spend the high price they charge. I think the Purifiant is around $80, and the Vital Protection is around $100.
Trust me, it's worth every penny!
(P.S. One common mistake is to treat your skin harshly, with hot water and harsh products. Don't do it. Treat your skin like it's delicate tracing paper that can tear when too much force is used. And when you buy the Darphin, don't accidentally get the Gel Exfoliant ! That's too rough on your skin. You want the Gel Mousse Purifiant !!!)

There's this stuff called salicylic acid that works great. It dries out your acne like that. Its in most acne washes I believe, but if you buy it straight, it works better. You wash your face, then with a q-tip, you apply the salicylic acid to your acne (not all over your face).
This stuff works wonders. I highly recommend it. I got mine from Aveda, but if you look it up, I'm sure you can find it other places.

my daughter suffers too with very bad acne. We tried every cream, facial wash, and diet to try and improve it. Nothing worked so we visited the doctor who has prescribed a long term dose of antibiotics, they're certainly a lot better since. Try it.

Use a benzyl peroxide or salicylic acid cleanser to fight pimples. A very good product to wash your face is proactive solution.

Go to your doctor and ask is there is any kind of product you could use. Most physicians carry things at the office.
