Any suggestions would help. I like my alcoholic drinks to have a sweet or fruity taste to them.

If you really want sweet and fruity, why not go with a dessert wine?

With a budget of $50, you could easily afford to buy a Canadian ice wine, or even a decent bottle of Sauternes from France.

2003 was a good year for Sauternes, and is currently on the shelf. Good for early drinking. A good value is Chateau Lamothe-Guignard. A full 750 mL bottle should come in well under your price limit. Liquid gold.

An Australian shiraz would be a good choice red for that, or a south African one - both are pretty sweet. As for a white wine, I'd recommend a Gerwurtztrameiner - which is grown in many places, but originally from Alsace-Lorraine area. Any will do.

Yellow Tail Merlot is less than $10. It's made in Australia and tastes much better than the more expensive French wines. Australian wines have a reputation for being both cheap and good. A very rare thing these days.

If you want sweet or fruity, I recommend buying a sauvignon blanc - these tend to be sweet with citrus notes. I like the Santa Margarita which you can find anywhere.

Also consider buying a nice champagne instead and adding a little fruit juice, like mango or peach. I recommend the Mumm Cordon Rouge - very decent and moderately priced.
