Hi - we have a little kitten who 's now almost 9.5 weeks - Saw the vet 2 weeks ago right after we welcomed him @ home and she said he was in great health- He is a bundle of joy, very active ( he is an Aby) and very vocal- The one thing that always worries me though is that he systematically meows when he goes pee or poop in his litter ( whether we are in the room near him or not )- ( he acts very healthy, has no diarhea , seems to use the litter at a regular pace, has been dewormed etc...) We clean his litter once a day in the evening so I doubt it is him asking for something cleaner- Does any of you have an idea of why he has this behavior ? is it just an habit he could have caught from his littermates ? or just because he is vocal ? or is it something you guys have experienced and does it mean anything that i should be aware of ?

Unless he is straining at the litter box, there is no need to worry. My 9 yr old used to do this when he was a kitten and he has had no urinary problems. He is also a ver vocal cat. I think it is just the cat's way of saying: "Geads up! I am about to produce something all on my own!" I think they expect you to PRAISE excessively when the production comes in its pristine freshness in the litter box. Hee hee hee. Enjoy your little bundle of joy. If vet says he is healthy, then he is. Nothing to worry about.

I have had 5 different cats (3 at this time) that were/are all vocal talkers... 3 were half-siamese, the other 2 were just cats... one complained about the litter unless I had just cleaned it, one would actually roll and play in the clean litter! LOL He was just a happy kitten! Each cat has its own personality... and likes and dislikes.
Have you tried a different brand? Could be that. My 3 now use one box for #2, and the other for #1... they all gripe at each other, if they are in the room by themselves, at just about everything you can imagine... but at least we know where they are! LOL Best of luck to you with your cat, sounds like a beauty! ( I have always wanted an Abby cat!)

I have a 3.5 mth old male Siamese kitten. And he also meows when he uses his box. Mostly when I'm in the room with him. He does it with #1 and #2. I know Siamese are very vocal. So I dont know why either one would do it. Good luck. P.S He goes around in a circle before he does his business. Meowing the whole time.

Sounds like your kitty is getting a UTI. It is not that uncommon. You should really get the vet to check his urine (can be done with simple blood work). Many times, just like in us humans, when they have a UTI, it hurts, they cry. Many times they will not go to the box at all, they will start to have accidents if it gets worse. It may be just a behavioral thing, but I would associate that with a UTI. I just lost my kitty of 18 years and the one thing that she did, cry/miss box when she developed a UTI. Good luck.
