To add to another response:

1. Because their identity is hidden
2. Because it's an easy way to provoke a reaction (it seems that the more controversial and insulting Q's spark more responses)
3. Because other ppl are reading it

add those 3 ingredients together and give it to a hapless, pointless lowlife and bingo! You've got the next insult guaranteed! I know, its sad...

I think quite alot of people think that the questions might be piss takes, so pre-empt looking foolish by insulting the questioner.

Also, in an environment where you win points just for answering, putting anything down, without thinking about it is just as gratifying, points-wise, as writing a sincere answer on a subject that you have some opinion on or knowledge of. I think that is one of the failings of this otherwise very interesting social experiment.

Finally, the simple truth is that there are a lot of very ignorant people out there.....

Because it's anonymous. Because ignorant people think it's funny and entertaining to cut down others. Because those who are unsatisfied with themselves find comfort in insulting others. And, as the devil's advocate, some people just get sick of reading spelling and grammer errors and posts that just don't make sense...they just don't have the intelligence or compassion to realize that there are a lot of different people here, with different education levels, who speak different languages, and who have different opinions.

Because when given 'anonymity' many people use it as an open door to dropping all civility; good manners and decorum and they just say whatever comes into their heads inclusive of slurs and bigoted and mean spirited comments to folk they don't 'like' who may think or look differently than they.

There is a saying that 'You ARE what you THINK"...so when I see folk behaving like that on here, it gives me a lens into who they REALLY are.

Because its just people talking to eachother over computers, but if it was face to face a lot more people would hold their tounge. I would also say for attention, to get a reaction outta someone to make them feel worth reacting too.

Probably they have no friends in real life as well.

I truly think that the majority of the people on this site, at least during the daytime hours are people that are at work just wasting time. So if you factor that in, I would think that there are three reasons that people are rude. 1) They are just trying to entertain themselves and if it is just by getting a rise out of you, so be it. 2) Those people are under management that they don't like or even hate. There is no excuse for them to take out their anger on other people. However, I could see someone having been chewed out by their boss and then getting on this site just to be mean to someone else just to let off steam. 3) There are just a lot of mean and hateful people out there.

Just my thoughts.

I ask questions about real things that I need to know. I get real answers. No one has been rude to me.

So, I wonder if your questions are silly, or insulting? You'd get nasty answers for those.
