When people breed their dogs to be TINY, they tend to put a premium price on them. Any Maltese is going to be small enough for your cramped living quarters.
If you don't have a lot of money to spend, I suggest you try http://www.petfinder.com or your local Maltese rescue.
http://www.americanmaltese.org/ This place charges $250.
Good luck on your search.

A Maltese should be under 7 pounds, most likely 4-6 pounds. That weighs less than a gallon of milk. How small did you want????
As for "cheap". The problem with a dog that is "cheap" in the beginning is that it could be very expensive later.
The site for the breed club says it well:
http://www.americanmaltese.org/
BEGIN CLIP FROM WEB PAGE
"There are no "set" prices for Maltese puppies. Prices vary from breeder to breeder and from one area of the country to another. This is not the time to "bargain hunt". Pet shop prices are usually as much as or more than a breeder's puppies. Chances are that veterinary bills for a pet shop puppy will be higher than a puppy bought from a breeder which is something to consider. Some breeders offer price options such as a reduced price on a puppy that is sold on a spay/neuter contract."

I agree with bookmom. The smaller the dog, the more expensive the purchase price... AND..since they are smaller, they have more health problems down the road. If you want one that is "cheap", get a regular sized maltese, you wont pay quite as much as you will for a "tiny" one, and later on you will be thankful that it doesnt have as many health problems as a "tiny" one would.

There are numerous national and regional Maltese Rescue organizations to contact, as there are with all breeds. Adopting a dog from a breed rescue organization helps to be a part of the solution and is a great way to acquire a loving pet.

In general with purebred dogs you get what you pay for. A good breeder is not going to sell their pups for CHEAP. Also, a good breeder will not breed out of the standards. They would prefer between 4-6 pounds, which is pretty small are you looking for a smaller dog than that?

No offense, yet canines are high priced many times, so in case you do no longer prefer to spend alot of money now then you definately probable shouldn't get a canines. having pronounced that, in case you ever see some thing promoting a low fee or unfastened domestic dog, then there's a competent danger it might desire to have wellness issues you will could spend a great form of money on besides. while you're incredibly desperate to get a canines, I wold propose going to a shelter or rescue. That way you would be saving a existence, yet as I pronounced in the past, a canines would be high priced no depend the in improve fee.

Sorry, there is no such thing as a "really TINY one"....if you find one, they are not healthy and the person who bred them is not good, either. A normal Maltese will be fine in a small apartment.

If you dont have the money then don't get a dog. Dogs need vet care (shots, if they get ill) and food and those things are far from free.
