He should have put a raincoat over his unit when he was having sex with the first girlfriend if he didn't want her to have a baby. His only choices now are to step up and be a man and pay the price for his past poor choices or be less than a man and slink off and hide somewhere so he can avoid paying for the care for his own child. The old girlfriend has the responsibility of paying for 18 years or more of continuous child care for her poor choices so your friend needs to step up and do the right thing. This is called growing up and really being a man. Potential reduced income or future wedding plans don't factor into this situation at all. Maybe he can teach his children not to make the same dumb mistakes in their lives.

Wow that is a tough one. he should have been paying regular child support since the child was born and that would have been determine on the amount of money that he had made then. I believe the mother of the child would have to to the court with reason to adjust the amount. I don't know if she can get more because he makes more now, but i certainly hope he pays enough right now to take good care of his child.

If paternity has been proven, the child deserves it. Pay the support. Dont be a dead beat dad.
