If he isn't neutered, that could be part of the cause. But more than likely its the food you're feeding. Some foods cause dogs to smell....its kinda like an allergic reaction, but not that severe. I would take him to the vet, and rule out any physical ailments, then find a different food and gradually switch him over (mixing both foods until he is totally on the new). Good luck!

He could be having a problem with the food you are feeding him. Some dogs have a problem breaking down some protiens, and they sometime smell like and old we shoe.

We had a red rescue doberman with this problem. The only food that didn't bother him was called River Run, made by Nutrena. Took us 8 different foods.

I have a hound dog and they do tend to have a certain smell about them. I suggest feeding your dog fatty acid pills which will help with his skin and coat. Get a good shampoo at your local pet store as well. My husband baths our dog in head and shoulders shampoo and it seems to work for her.

I have 3 dachshunds. None of them stink. They smell good compared to most dogs, especially poodles. Sometimes the male's butt stinks, but that's because he needs his anal glands cleaned at the vet from time to time. You might try changing his dogfood too. I feed my dogs Purina little bites. You aren't supposed to bathe this type of dog too often because you can irritate their skin. They are pretty clean dogs for the most part.

Try taking him to the vet to get his anal glands fixed. You could also buy doggie mints or perfume. Don't use human perfume on him because that might give him a rash.

his anal glands may be impacted. Take him to a groomer or a vet to check on it. You may also want to try to switch his food, since that sometimes can cause them to smell.
I hope you can fix this, wouldn't want the little one to lose his happy home ...

Does he smell like corn chips? All dogs I know smell like corn chips. You can't get rid of that one.

If it is a yucky butt smell, he may need his anal glands expressed.

Maybe he needs his teeth to be brushed.

First of all, why in the hell did you get a dog if you weren't ready for dog smell?? Getting rid of him because of his natural smell is beyond wrong! Sorry hun but it's the truth. You should have thought more about it before getting a dog if you hate the smell bad enough to make the dog suffer for your mistake.

That said, my Mom had a dacshund and he didn't smell like dog hardly at all. Maybe it'sa the type of food you have him on.
