To "New Orleans Get Over It":
Katrina has NOT been dealt with! I have great insurance coverage, but the companies don't want to pay!
I'm still cooking in an electric pot because I can't find anyone to cut a hole in my kitchen counter for the cooktopl I finally decided to keep the long counter and get a stove at the end, but now I have to remove a bunch of cabinets that were just installed a few months ago.
I got shingles while living in the STRESS of a FEMA trailer that was not made for a handicapped person, which I am. I had to join a gym to take a shower. I had to get a potty chair!
There's no threshold under my front door. Some walls are crooked. The electrical work is shoddy, even though the people who did it were supposed to be experts. When I plug something into the wall, the outlet itself goes into the wall and the face plate breaks. I'm afraid a fire could break out at any time. I'm still waiting for more inspections.
I got circuit breakers to replace the fuse box, but I still have a problem of the breakers popping off if I use the microwave when the kitchen light is on, and the whole front and side walls of the house goes out. I mean all the electrical outlets on the whole front of the living room, front wall of the den, and whole side wall, all 37 feet of it, in the den goes out. That means my fridge, my washer and dryer, the microwave, the light over the kitchen sink, the den TV, the living room TV. It all goes out.
No, things are NOT resolved about Katrina. Many people STILL have not received ANY money or NOT ENOUGH money to properly repair their homes.
Don't tell me it's been resolved. Where do YOU live, Mr. NOGOI?
Prince Joe, thanks for bringing this up. It feels as though people have forgotten us. Down here we watch it every day, all day, on TV, about how people are still struggling to recover. Some people NEVER got trailers to live in. Some people still can't come home! Many people lost loved ones. I lost a cat through stress. They all evacuated with us, but she stopped eating because of the stress of moving a couple of times during evacuation. I'm not saying a cat is worth more than a person, but she was like my baby and I still cry and mourn over her. She was very loving.
There should be no competition. We just need for everyone to know that our issues have not yet been resolved. We need for people to know what we're still going through.
Even if we manage to stop terrorism, we still can't stop mother nature. It shouldn't be a contest.
Added: Many schools still aren't open. There is a need for more teachers. Doctors have moved away because their homes could't be repaired. Many homes are just gone. The ones left standing are worse, because the owners not only had to deal with rebuilding, but they had to get rid of what was still there first! That was a big job!
BTW, I didn't spend my money on gold teeth! We didn't get enough to do much of anything yet. If it hadn't been for some people in my church, we'd still be in the trailer. They weren't experts, but they got us into the house. It wasn't all done just right, but the trailer was worse.
We're still on the phone every day trying to find people who are willing to do little jobs here and there. Most people just want to do whole houses, not little things left behind. It's very difficult and stressful, and I'm depressed almost every day.

what about the people in mississippi that were wiped out by katrina??? why do we not hear about their plight? we focus on N.O. but ignore the devastation one state to the east. doesn't make sense to choose one region over the other when both had residents lose all that they had.

I agree. I have plenty of friends that are still struggling to recover. People want to forget about it and move on.
