Does this mean there is some higher power? It seems a coincidence that so many groups of people removed be space and time have come to the conclusion that there is a God or Gods, or at least a higher power if there wasn't. When I say out loud "there is no God" I feel a little wrong for doing so. Now this may be mostly because I was raised in North America, and it goes against the norm not to believe in God, and believe me when I say I don't believe in any books version of God, but it feels wrong. As I've said before I think thta God is the sum of everything, past, present and future, but yet isn't a seperate entity that can intervene, or judge us. This would make sense why we have disease, and wars.

I think that the most sound evidence of a God is that most people throughout history, despite learnings, have felt there was a God.

God says He is revealed to everyone. If a person suppresses God they will say there is no God.

It is a good question, ok firstly why have so many groups of people have gods, when people have no explanation for something they make it up, did the thunder really happen when Thor banged his hammer, now we know why thunder happens and don't need to invent a story about a god making it happen, many people have to have something to believe in and to believe in something that is good and will protect you and is more powerful then your enemies is a good thing to have on your side, and i think the most powerful reason why so many believe in gods is the fact that the elders and rulers of a group can use gods to lay down a set of morals which isn't a bad thing, the bible is a great set of morals it doesn't mean its true, without morals you get death and destruction which might be why the clans that believe in some sort of god have survived for many years. the reason you feel guilty about saying i don't believe there is a god is because you have been brainwashed into believing there is a god its easily done, how many people went thru life NOT ever once believing in Santa i would say not many if any at all so don't think being brainwashed is me having a go everyone in their life has been brainwashed at some time so its not hard to think that going against the belief of a god will make you feel uneasy.

If there were a thousand different explanations of gravity you'd probably get the idea the nobody knows for sure what gravity is.

It works the same with theology. The most sound evidence that we don't know who or what god(s) is is that there's so many contradictory versions of god.

Perhaps the real god doesn't reveal "him"-self to us. Perhaps the god of religion is an invention. It's a possibility.

You forget, most people through out history were NOT monotheists, they were polytheists and animists. The concept of a monotheistic deity is a rather recent concept. If one accepts the (illogical) notion of an Almighty God, one who governs the entire universe and more, then it is both arrogant and insane to think that such a being would care about you, let alone speak to you. There is no way you could ever have a personal relationship with such an entity.

Very good question! I asked myself about that lately. And to the first person who answered, do you really think that almosty EVERY civilization (even those that were distant and far apart, so that there was no way they could communicate with each other way back then) just needed to seek "certainty"?

Sorry I don't really have an answer to this, but I'll be watching this question.

You probably also think its wrong to go walking outside without clothes on but that doesn't make it wrong. This, like the idea of God, is something that has been passed around human civilization for generations.

Fear of the unknown. If you have so little education or knowledge of the world that things like breathing don't make sense and the lack of technology to give you that answer, the easiest explanation is that a god did it.

If you can explain why only the Northern European and South Eastern Asian cultures are the only ones with legends and stories about dragons. Then you can answer your own question. There are many questions out there that science can't explain, the many different faiths and why they are here is one of them.
