In reading at the Knot, most brides there choose some kind of chicken dish. BBQ to most people is not considered simple where weddings are concerned. Serve anything you want though. It doesn't matter if anyone else thinks it's proper or not.

roast beef of ham is simple. You could also go with pasta. But having meat is probably the best way to go. The BBQ pork is a good idea. Ask some of your guest and see what they perfer, but also go with what you like most.

we had considered pork BBQ for our rehersal dinner (not the wedding, i know, but i'm just trying to throw out some ideas for you...). we had also thought about doing a cookout with burgers, hot dogs, and grilled chicken. depending on where, what time, and the time of year you're having it, i think a cookout style reception would be nice. everyone enjoys them, they're intimate and relatively inexpensive. the men can do their thing (ie - grilling) and everyone has a good time (in my opinion). whatever you decide, just make sure it is something you like and good luck!

Depends on what kind of wedding you want. Sit down or cocktail style?
If you are doing a sit down, you could do many things, carved roast beef, stuffed chicken breast, each of these items could be buffet style too. Serve it with rice pilaf and mixed vegetables based on the time of year you are having your wedding.
I agree, BBQ would be messy.

I love the BBQ idea! That's what I'm doing at my wedding. I am thinking of having picnic style foods like bbq and potato salad and beans & stuff like that. I like it!!!!!! Some say its too messy, but do what you want!!! You'll have more fun that way.

Something with chicken is always a safe choice. I think offering something for vegetarians or those who don't like to eat a lot of meat, like pasta or fish, would be a nice alternative and it would show that you respect their beliefs/diets. Also, alternatives are a must, especially if there are people with special needs, like allergies. You don't have to completely change your menus. Maybe have the sauce separate from the meat, for example, for those that may be allergic to a spice or something in it.

At my wedding we are having chicken and ribs, dressing, salads, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls and thats about it.
It really jsut depends on what type of meal you want- breakfast, brunch, lunch, appetizers, buffet, sit down meal..
Chicken is always the best- and some times cheapest, menu option. You can get it made any way you want
