I don't know him, just heard about him. Some things I have appreciated, others not. As I am not a public figure, fortunately I don't need to be the brunt if this kind of question. In any case I don't strive to be like him. I look to Christ.
I knew somebody who did a lot of things I didn't approve of - I looked at him as less of a Christian than he should be: I felt he was selfish, legalistic, unloving.
Then I learned he had adopted a child from across the world whose face had been completely burnt off with acid, and he was spending all sorts of money he didn't have in getting her face fixed.
Then I revised my earlier judgements.
So, whatever Jerry Falwell is, I'm sure he has done some pretty silly things, some of them, unfortunately, in the name of Christ. But it would be interesting to get to know the man behind the name. What's he really like? How does God see him? How do his wife and children see him?
In other words, let's not be so judgemental.

Falwell is a terribly controversial figure since he represents the very ultimate in "right wing, bible thumping, my God is better than your God, homophobic branch of religious thinking.

Falwell actually said that "9-11" was God's punishment for allowing abortion rights people to function ! Can anyone support a man that thinks that way?

Falwell recently said that the Prophet Mohaned (the most revered religious leader to millions of adherents (three times as many as Christians) was a TERRORIST ! Can you imagine?

Can anyone ever imagine calling Jesus Christ a TERRORIST even though he fought with his Jewish elders, condemned them for their behaviour in the temple and finally broke away from his own church to form a new one (not a Christian one of course. Jesus was a jew from brith to death and never heard of Christianity.

Falwell has a following, just like the Rev Jones had a following which Jones took to their death (all of them).

Falwell has a following just like Jimmy Swaggart and Oral Roberts and a dozen other fire and brimstone preachers have.

It is entirely normal since Saddam still has many followers despite his execution for multi-murders.

Hitler still has a huge following

Stalin, probably the worst human monster killer of his own people has a huge following and wished he were still in charge !

So Falwell will probably maintain a following and receive a tearful good-bye when his 300 lbs is lowered into the ground.

No. I strive to be like Jesus! Jerry Falwell is a human and he will make mistakes!
Please do not judge all Christian by one who you apparently don't like and are judging.... Kind of interesting when one shouts "Don't judge" and they are spewing judgment all around!
Makes you go Ummmmmmm.

I have no opinion of Falwell, and I strive to be like Jesus. You can peck anyone apart and find fault, but dont you have something better to do?

Do atheists strive to be like Lenin?

No, I strive to follow Jesus.

Religious leaders are people - flawed like everyone else, biased like everyone else and frequently blinded to the damage they create.

Judge not, For as you judge, you shall be judged by the same measure. But would Elvis be proud of you using his image for your own purpose? These things and other stuff are what you should ask YOURSELF before coming to Christians with your lunacy.
