Many states r trying to pass breed specific laws that make owning a pit-bull illeagal. The laws not only make it illeagal to buy a new pit-bull, but any pit-bulls that r currently owned in the state where the statutes r being passed r being taken from their owners and being put to death, regardless of any wrong doing on the owner or the dog's part. Pets that have been family members 4 years r being taken from their homes by people who would like to make the breed extinct altogether. I was just wondering if anyone else besides me feels that this is a travesty of the most unthinkable type. People fight to keep sharks and all kinds of other breeds of animals far more dangerous than pit-bulls from extinction, but yet we r passing laws that r going 2 make an entire species extinct!! Who do these people think they r? They aren't God. Also anyone that agrees with these laws, I just want 2 know what ur justification is for them?Would u make any animal that has ever hurt someone extinct?

I don't trust the breed at all. I think they were bred for one thing and one thing only, killing. That is my opinion. To answer your direct question, I don't believe they should ALL be put down, thats just not right. Even the people who own pits should realize that the breed does have a very bad reputation, thanks to some very BAD owners. The breed is indeed a living animal and I don't like to admit this, I did meet a friend of my son who has a pit and he is so sweet. I can't believe that came out of me, it's true. My son wanted me to see that there are pits that aren't killers. This dog was 7 years old, they got him as a pup. He loves to play, he wore my arm out throwing his ball. He is a real clown and I can see his family loves him very much. I enjoyed the time I spent there, it did open my eyes, I understand things better now. However, I still DO NOT TRUST THEM. Just because I have had very horrific experiences with them, I need to learn to except that there are some good ones out there. Should we now move on to "putting down" all the people who train them to fight, the drug dealers, the guys who want to appear tough? Where will it end? Two weeks ago I would have said...kill them all, now, I am not so sure, I still have douts about them. Banning them and removing them from the home, well, if one attacked another animal or person, no second chance, gone. For those of you who have them and keep them fenced in and love them, that have never been treated bad or tasted blood, they should be able to keep their family member.

BSL is a really bad idea. The government is using the fear, ignorance and controversy that surrounds pitbulls to get it passed. Once pitbulls have been banned by law it opens the door to banning any breed of dog.
In Italy 92 breeds of dogs have been deemed dangerous and we are headed in the same direction. If people do not wake up and stop supporting BSL , eventually we may not be able to own a dog and the only place we will get to see a dog will be in a zoo.

This is one of the more original attempts I've seen to draw the membership into the old pit bull debate and have them gnashing away at and insulting each other until they are all reported. I applaud your effort and originality. To answer the actual question and avoid debate I'll just say that I take no issue with BSL if that's what the majority wishes.

I feel the same as you and it is completely wrong. The government is going after the wrong people and are not fixing the problem. Even if the idiots got their way the sick cruel people who fight pits would only find another breed to exploit and the problem continues. And what most people do not understand they are trying to ban other breeds and not just pits. For awhile now I have joined with animals rights groups to sign petitions and write legislators to stop this. And once the legislation goes into effect they can easily add breeds to the list. If they want to control what breeds people can have then they should grant licensces and ensure the proper people are dog owners. It is not the Pit Bull or any other breeds fault it is only human fault and neglect.

Their goal is to eliminate one breed at a time, leaving nothing but little fo-fo dust mops.

I don't have pit bulls, but I do have doberman pinschers.

When my son was 6-8 he'd been bitten 3 times by 2 different breeds of dogs (doxies and miniature schnauzers). Twice while checking the mail by the schnauzers and once when invited into a friend's home. Yes, they were reported, dogs went to impound for 10 days and they paid restitution and dr bills.... however, there was no big stink of these smaller breeds biting.

Don't see those little ba stards on the BSL list! GRRR

maybe not banning them but how about mandatory spay and neuter? and i agree with someone on here who said about their jaws. I agree with that person . I mean i can deal with a bite and a bruise . But with the pitt they shred whatever they attack . and then they rag on it tearing the skin further . Does anyone realize that everytime a pitt attacks someone all of us pay for it ? such as increases in our house insurance ,medical bills ,medical insurance and other such as people who get attacked and dont have medical insurance ? how many people realize that . I for one am trying of my insurances and such going up because the insurance companies had to pay out for someone else"s stupidity . I dont agree with the statement that it is the way they are raised either . these dogs were bred to take down a bull for god's sake . I hope none of you ever have to see that sweet baby as you all put it tear the face off a toddler who was not doing anything other than being in a backyard . It happens too many times . yes other dogs do bite but they dont have the capacity to rip your arm off your body . As for me and my house we will not nor never own one of these dogs . I am not being mean just truthfull . good luck .

It's crazy that they would even consider to do this. If they would like to regulate Pit Bulls then they should require maybe that all owners have to get a tracking system or have them registered etc.

I understand WHY they are doing this but they are going about it all wrong. The people who have pitts for fighting or drug dogs - okay thats understandable. But pitts are wonderful, adorable, smart, amazing dogs and it's sad that this is happening.

People are to blame for this NOT the dog!

It is truly my belief that people shoudl have to get a liscense before getting a pet. Especially one that, when in the worng hands, can be a killing machine. (Not the dog's fault-the owners fault!) This breed is not an instinctively wicked or mean breed. The owners are the problem.

To "outlaw" them would be wrong, stupid, and a waste of time, energy and resources.

Yeah, BSL is bad news.

But what about the nasty anti-dog laws that affect all breeds? Is it ok because it affects all breeds? BSL will not matter in the least if we are not allowed to own ANY animals!!!
