Take either a whole chicken or chicken parts and boil them with chopped celery, carrots, and onions. Oh, and whatever seasonings you like, salt papper, bay leaf, sage, thyme, whatever.
Once the chicken is thoroughly cooked, debone and shred the chicken and put the meat back in the pot. You now have the chicken soup... You can add egg noodles or make dumplings.
You can use all sorts of things for dumplings, I like to mix up bisquick biscuit mix, but I have also used canned biscuits. Whatever you use, place them in the pot and put the lid on. Medium-high heat should do it. Check them and stir every once in a while until the dumplings are cooked all the way through.
If the broth is not thick enough for you, you can take bit of flour and mix with a ladle of the soup base. Mix it well so there are no lumps of flour. Add it back to the pot and bring to a boil.

Get a chicken and boil it. I use boneless, skinless breasts. SAVE THE WATER USED TO BOIL THE CHICKEN!!! Shred the chicken, put it to the side. Next mix up some flour and water to make a dough. USE A TEASPOON to scoop out a little dough and drop it into the water used to boil the chicken. Let cook until done. After all the dumplings are made, put the chicken back in with some salt and pepper.
See? All you need are chicken breasts, water, and flour. You can add a can of cream of chicken for extra flavor, but I rarely do. And trust me on the teaspoon. Don't use a tablespoon, or your dumplings will be HUGE!

You need water, chicken, onions, celery and carrots are good, salt and pepper and biscuit mix or make biscuit dough from scratch. You don't have to use the veggies but they really make it taste better.
Stick the chicken, (cooked and skin and bones removed) in a pot with salt, pepper, and water and cut up veggies (add some parsley too). Bring it to a boil. While the soup is coming to a boil, make your biscuit dough. Don't roll it. You could let the soup part boil for awhile (like half an hour) so the flavors really develop. Then drop the biscuit dough in the soup and put the lid on. Let it cook for ten minutes and voila! dinner.

my boyfriend has his own little recipe I can share with you.
He cooks onions down in his pot and then adds chicken broth.
He then adds chicken (boiled previous to other ingredients), celery and carrots and cream of chicken soup. He lets that cook for a bit and then come the dumplings.
He buys a cheap can of buttermilk biscuits. NOT the flaky layer kind! He cuts them into four and adds them to the mix and lets it cook for another 30 minutes or so.
The dumplings here come out as odd shaped, so if you want them more symetrical (square and flattened) then just mash the biscuits together, roll them out flat, and cut them into squares before adding them to the pot.
That's it!
