How long is she "Cat Sitting" for. If it's been 6 months and she's still not taking care of it, call the owners of the cat (if you have their number) and inform them. Also, if you can, take the cat into your home until the owners come back. I would sit and talk to the person who's cat sitting and say "hey i've been feeding this cat for 6 months now, how about some money to pay for the food".

call law enforcement and animal control. Since you have been feeding the animal they can not take the animal due to insufficent food or neglect. You may however be able to have them come and do something if there are cat leash laws in your city and the cat was on your property at the time of the call. You can complain to the authorities that the person is not caring for the pet and is not given shelter, or proper food and never let inside of the property. They will come and inspect the property, but be aware its a very difficult and tricky situation with animal abuse and neglect. If they cat is in good condition then there is not much they can do but take the word of the woman. Believe me these people can be great liars. Its really up to you to be involved by keeping good records. Write down time cat is left out, when you fed it, if it goes inside, if there is a shelter, when you talked to to person about it, what she said. All these details can help the investgation team determine if they can take the animal into custody. Also you can take the cat yourself to the right people, or confine it in your garage and just say its a stray but if the neighbor knows you know the cat, and they find out you could be introuble for stealing the cat or causeing domsetic issues and perjury. Also the original owners might not be aware whats going on, and are the rightful owners if this is the case. It may not have been the smartest thing they done or responsible, by letting this woman watch the cat, but it doesnt matter they should be aware of the situation. The woman could be lying about that fact too in order to put you off.

6 months is a long time for taking care of someone else's cat. If she is not caring for this cat and you know who it is she is taking care of it for, contact them and let them know. I would also consider taking this cat into my home (with a litter box). See how long it takes the neighbor to realize she can't find the cat. Keep tabs on how long you've had the cat, weigh the cat when you get it so you can have a record of it.

If for some reason the original owner never comes back, then i guess you will be a new owner.

If you don't want to do that, I would suggest contacting the humane society and letting them know what is happening. Cats are considered domestic animals and there are laws on letting your animals roam the streets and becoming a nuisance. Once animal control comes out, let them know that you will be willing to take the cat into your custody and they will document this. They may also give a citation to the caregiver of this cat.

Cat sitting for 6 months???? Good God, where are the owners? If you know them, can you contact them and let them know what is going on? If not, would you be willing to take the cat in and care for it until the owners return? If that is an option, call the Humane Society, explain the situation and offer your help. Hopefully the kitty is microchiped and the owners can be notified that you have their baby - because your neighbor probably will not tell them. Either way, your neighbor could get a HUGE fine from the City.

Take the cat in. Try to contact the owners and inform them of the situation. If you are unable to contact the owners then you'll have to just let it ride out as is. Then talk to them when they return from their trip.

Good Luck

Something similar happened with our neighbors. They were not taking care of their dog for about 3-4 years and we fed it during that time. Eventually, during a really cold winter, they left and threw a blanket outside for him. Because of his age, we took him in, and he is now an inside dog. If the cat is attractive and young, you might want to consider a no-kill shelter, or take him in yourselves.

initially, you've been somewhat youngster on the time and won't be able to be anticipated to be the in user-friendly words caretaker for an animal like that. Your mothers and fathers must have watched over him and made effective he ate and were given ideal care. as far as animal administration is going, in the adventure that they arrive across a badly injured animal without collar or different identity (which contain a volume tattoo or microchip implant) who's suffering, they offer them a sedative shot, then an injection into the vein of drugs that forestalls their coronary heart and respiration. It ends their suffering instantly. Their body is then cremated. Now if the animal is injured and has tags or some way of being said, they are going to provide it drugs to cope with the discomfort and attempt to locate the owner. at the same time as i become little, i become taking area in with my puppy parakeet (i become like 3 years previous) and become "giving him a bathtub". properly i finished up drowning him, notwithstanding it wasn't intentional. at the same time as i become older and realized what I had executed, i become responsible for decades. yet I actually have 4 rescued parakeets now, alongside with 4 rescued cats and a rescued dogs. I made my peace with the keet I harmed (now over 30 years in the past). you've a cat now who you want and look after. that is your residing testamony to the cat you lost. If it nonetheless haunts you, make a donation contained in the call of the kitty out of your childhood to the community animal look after or different rescue corporation. in case you may't have the funds for a donation, you may continuously take them food (they continuously want donated food!) or volunteer a at the same time as with them. no longer in user-friendly words will you be honoring your kitty, you'd be helping different animals have a danger to get a clean abode in a loving kinfolk. that is time to launch your guilt, you've been youthful and did not recognize any extra effective, and your mothers and fathers did not educate you on the time a thanks to care on your kitty correct. i'm effective his spirit has lengthy on the grounds that forgiven you, and that is time that you should forgive your self.

My answer would be to get as much info. out of your neigh. in regards to the owners. from there you should try contact them and let them know what is going on.............if that doesn't work then keep feeding it, give it some water. you should find out if the cat is de-clawed because if it is then the poor bugg'r has no defence while it is loose.
