Perspiration is 55 percent to 60 percent fluid, mainly water. Perspiration contains salt (sodium chloride), as well as trace amounts of other substances, such as ammonia, calcium, chloride, copper, lactic acid, phosphorous, and potassium. These substances, called electrolytes, help to regulate the balance of fluids in the body. The most abundant electrolytes are phosphorous and sodium, which cause sweat to sting the eyes and give sweat its salty taste.

Because there is literally salt in it. Electrolytes are what comes out of you when you sweat, and are what need to be replaced by drinks like Gatorade, which are full of electrolytes.

This is the same reason salt water conducts electricity better than fresh water.

Its from the sodium in your system. When you work out you lose water from your system, dehydrating you, in the process sodium is also bein lost in the form of salt that comes into water creating salty water.
