the best way to do it is to get a good workout program going, take in lots of protein to help rebuild your muscles as you are going to break them down while working out and make sure that you eat healthy foods. Eat 5 small meals as opposed to 3 large meals. It will take you time to do this, but it will work out. Also, Go to your local GNC and talk to them about some supplements that you can use to help reach your goal. Good Luck!

I was in the exact same predicament as you were... same age, height and weight.

Do this:

Eat pasta w/ every meal. Tortellini and Rigatoni are perfect.

Take creatine for six months, this will add 10 pounds easy.

When you go to the gym, do strength training... heavy weights, low repititions.

I went from 150 to 175 in a year and then to 200 after another 1.5 years just from doing that.

Peace.

take in a lot of calories. you should aim for about 20 calories for every 1 lb you weight. so about 3,000 for you to start off. an easy way is to drink protein shakes made for weight gaining. there are some that offer about 600 calories per shake and they suggest 3-4 shakes a day. can get expensive though. good luck.

1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of lean body mass

Do major compound movement exercises: Squats, deadlifts, bench press, and also other movements like pullups, power cleans and presses, rows and dips

All the other exercises out there like curls, extensions, do not stimulate the metabolism enough if used alone and if they are coupled with the compound movements more likely than not they will leave to overtraining (unless you are on anabolics)
