My son will be 3 in 2 months. He knows everything that he has to do, he knows to get the seat, put it there, sit down, flush the toilet and put the toilet paper in the trash. He has a potty downstairs and the small seat that you put on the regular toilet. The problem is he only does it when he wants to. I will ask him if he has to go and he say no then he does it in the diaper. Or he will say I got to use the potty and he does it fine no problem. I had him wear underwear one day and I was showing I was happy, stickers all of that. And he didn't want the underwear, he wanted the diaper. I think he is a little lazy. But I don't want to push the issue too much I don't want to get him upset or to really not want to be potty trained. I just need some advise. Thanks

Coming on 3 years old - and you are still training him? He obviously knows when he has got to go. Just leave him to it until he asks to go, then let him sort it. Don't mean to be crude, but it may be a bit messy at first. But when he realises mum is not gonna dote on him, he will sort things out.
If he has messy pants at first, leave him like that for a little while, just to show him.
It sounds as if you are doting too much.

We had some problems with our now 4 year old son when he was about 3 too. We tried earlier than his 3 year birthday, but he just wasn't ready. Some of the things we ended up doing to make it finally stick with him:
1.) I'd throw a few Cheerios or Fruit Loops into the toilet so he could aim and hit them. I know it sounds stupid, but he thought it was hilarious.
2.) We'd reward each bathroom visit with 1 M&M or Tootsie Roll. After a week or so, he totally forgot about getting a reward and didn't ask.

A lot of patience--my son was a little over three before I got him potty trained all the way. Aside from the stickers etc, I also tried to make a game out of it--throw some cheerios in the toilet and have him aim--kinda corny, but.... it eventually worked.

You may not like the sound of this but..... I think the best way to do it is to do away with the diapers / pull-ups (except sleeping) and buy a pack of regular underwear you may have a few accidents the first few days but then it will be smooth sailing.
the diapers and even the pull-ups do not let kids feel the wetness a wet pair of undies will.
Hope this helps

Your son is pretty normal. A lot of boys are like this really. my son s over 4 1/2 when I finally got him trained in the day. It takes time. Some kids are ready at 2 others arent. be patient and he will get there.

I have a three year old and I am going threw the same thing. He says when Travis goes I will that is his 1 1/2 year olds brother. Ithink he knows when he doesn't wear a diaper anymore he is gonna be a big boy. I guess that is scary to him. You should just wait it out he can wear them forever enjoy him while he still wants to be little i guess!

My son in is the same situation. I've been told that you shouldn't force the child to go on the potty because it ends up being a control issue where the child won't because he/she knows you want them too.

Patience. Try offering him a reward like M&M's after he uses it. This worked good for me. My first child did wonderful and was real easy but my 2nd child was stubborn and I eventually had to start spanking. It depends alot on the child.
