I would like to tone my butt/reduce size. I have been doing lunges about 100 a day in the sets of 20 every couple hours.
For better results should I squeeze abs, hold the lunge, do backwards?

That's alot of lunges. I'm not sure if you're supposed to do that much. There are all kinds all ways to do lunges: to the front, to the back, to the sides, holding weights, etc. Yes, you should contract your abs: hold your belly button towards your spine. Hold the lunge for a couple of seconds of guess. Don't let your knees extend past your toes or you could risk hurting yourself.

make sure your knee doesn't go past your toe.....for a forward lunge, put your heel down first.....you can either do several reps, or hold the lunge
