What is the big deal? Help wipe his bottom and move on. If it grosses you out, you should be babysitting. What if he were to have diarrhea or start vomiting? If you can't handle it, you shouldn't be watching children, period.

A 4 year old still cannot do as well as a grown up, when it comes to wiping. You don't want him to walk around with something still in there and cause a rash or infection. What i would do is, praise him for using the toilet, let him know how good of a job he is doing, and encourage him to try wiping for himself. But ALWAYS check when he is done, that he got everything out. I know it seems a little weird, because it is not your child, but you should have a special bond with the children you are babysitting anyway. If you think this is a little much, maybe speak with the parents to see if they could pay you a little extra for this job!

Sometime kids that age dont know how to properly wipe so the parents do it to make sure that its done right. Its pretty normal even though I know that you werent ready for it. I would ask his parents when they get home if its normal for him to ask adults to wipe him after a bowel movement. They will probably tell you the reason I did. By wiping for him right now they are teaching him how to do it. It wont be long before he can do it himself. If you are truly uncomfortable with it - you can either A: tell his parents you dont want to babysit anymore or B: buy some wipes and next time he asks for your help, you can bring the wipes in and ask him to try on his own - maybe use a little bribery. Good Luck.

I have a 4 1/2 year old daughter who can for the most part wipe her own behind but still needs some assisstance at times. Even when she doesn't need assisstance I still need to be there to make sure it is done properly. It is the parents responsibility to teach him how to do it himself but some people (including my husband)feel that 4 is too young to be teaching them such a thing.

If the kid is little he probably doesn't know how to. You should probably talk to the parents about it and tell them that you are not comfortable. Then you might consider waiting to babysit for this kid again until he/she is old enough to do it themselves. For a toddler that's not really any different then having a diaper changed and the embarassement would be on your part not his. Sorry this was so hard for you. Good luck next time.

I have been through this before but you just have to do it. We all do it. One time I was babysitting a 3-year-old and he wanted his butt wiped too. He hasn't been potty trained for very long, though. It was pretty gross. But it is just like changing a diaper. That is just the job of a babysitter to do what the parents would do if they were there.

Some kids need help wiping still. I know my daughter is five and soemtimes asks for help.
I mean sometimes they just need a little help. And if the parents do it all the time then theywill get used to it and maybe that is why he asked you.
Not a big deal just move on

If you are the babysitter, this child is your responsibility. Use such situations as a learning opportunity for the child. Teach him how to do this himself. Encourage him to be self sufficient.
Remember to teach him to wash his hands every time he uses the bathroom
If you have to continue to wipe his bottom for him, just act like it's no big deal. If you make it sound like a horrible thing to do, this kid will never want to do it himself!.

A 4 year old may not have the dexterity to wipe well enough, my almost-four-year-old doesn't quite have it down yet.
Ask his parents what to do in that situation if it ever arises again.

Maybe his Mom got after him for soiling his pants and so he wanted to make sure he was wiped good. He is just a little guy you can assist and if you cant then you should not babysit!!
