The price of something is not how much it is worth, but how much the seller values it.
The worth of something is not based on how much it costs, but how valuable it is.
The word priceless means no value of cash can purchase, and the word worthless means even though there may be a price, there may be little or no real value.

Priceless means so valuable there's no way (or enough money) in the world to accuratly put a price on it.
Worthless means it has no value (price).
so the 2 words are opposites.

The idiom is idiotic. For example: A share of StarBuck is worth whatever a fool is willing to pay for it. A roll in the sack with Paris Hilton is worth nothing to me but imagine something to lot's of drunkards and perverts.

The worth of something is decided by how much someone wll pay for it, like a painting that cost $20 to paint that sells for $1000.

Technically speaking, the price is what you pay. The value is what it's worth.

Because if something has no price...it is too valuable, i.e. WORTH too much to be priced, and has high value.
But if something has no worth, then it is of no value.
