its really an emotional issue. it doesnt matter what others see, when they look in the mirror they ACTUALLY see themselves as out of shape. my sister use to have an eating disorder and no one could convince her that she wasnt completely wilting away. its something that they deal with emotionally, no matter what they say. they're just blinded. i think it has too much to do with the fact that everywhere they look, there's someone who looks better than them.

People who have eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia have a hard time recognizing that they are not "fat". An eating disorder is not only a physical condition, a large part of it is psychological and very emotional. They have the incapability to see that they are not obese, no matter how thin they are. It distorts their body image, causing them to obsess with losing weight by either purging food they have eaten or starving themselves. The word "anorexia" is Latin from Greek: "an" meaning "without" and "orexis" meaning "appetitie." Either of these disorders can be caused by pressure from parents, friends, media, or themselves. The word "fat", though, is a very general term. A person can be quite a bit larger than another person, but are not neccicarily "fatter" because body types greatly differ due to body types, growing levels, and metabolism rates. A person can also be quite thinner than another person, but unheathier as well. The word "fat" is very opiniated.

They have body image issues and their whole perception of what is fat or thin is skewed
