She will need a picture ID to board the airplane, but she doesn't need a passport to leave the US. I have no idea what she will need to enter Mexico?? Surely she has some proof of Mexican citizenship? Check with the Mexican consulate or Mexican embassy.

If your mother is a Mexican citizen, she will need a mexican passport to get back into the us (if she is traveling by air). She will also need proof that she is a perminant resident of the US.

On Jan. 23,2007 air travelers to and from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean will for the first time need a passport to cross the U.S. border. She may not be able to fly out to leave!

Your mom cannot go to any country without a valid passport. She needs to contact the nearest Mexican embassy or consulate to get a passport.

It takes up to 6 weeks to get a passport, and thats if you already have a Certified copy of birth certifiacate, photos, and a completed application. A little late, I'd say!!

I believe she will need a US passport to get back into the US unless she has a visa or the right papers. They are very srict about this now. Tell her to contact the right authorities before she goes. She might get stuck.

Recently my niece bag´s was stolen in Miami, inside almos all her documents and passaport, she is Mexican and went to the MEXICAN CONSULATE, in Miami, but they told her to go back to Mexico without any documents, just with an identification, and she did it, without any problem.

That is because she did not have time enough in Miami to wait to tramit a new passaport.

Later she went to get a new passaport in Mexico.

Good luck...

Yes - she needs it to return into the US. Unless of course she is just going to Mexico to hide, then the answer is no.
