Stupid me, I put plates on my car from my cousin's old car because I didn't have the money at the time to register my car and get tags. I got pulled over and got a ticket for having ficticious plates. The very next day I borrowed some money from my aunt and got my car legally registered, but I still have to face going to court in 2 weeks. Does anyone know the punishment for having ficticious plates on your car?

well good luck you are automatically going to get a fine for improper plates and you might loose your license for a while it is a moving violation an every state does different on that violation but you did right by going and getting your own registration that will help but dont ever take and put and illegal plate on your own vehicle any more

it all depends on the judge I would say the worst case would be a license suspended, Most likely you will just get a fine. If this is your first offense. Show the judge you got the car registered and tell them you where only transporting the vehicle home with your cousins plates, this may help reduce the punishment

In Arizona, it is a Class 2 Misdemeanor to knowingly use fictitious plates (Revised Statute 28-2531). As a Class 2 Misdemeanor, you can get up to 4 months in jail (Revised Statute 13-707) and pay a fine not to exceed $750. Good luck.

NO WORRIES!!!!!!! I used to drive with different plates all the time (in NY) and all you get is $125 fine for not having registration and no points. If they did not impound your car and locked you up on the spot thinkng its a stolen car, you're good to go. You'll pay a fine, thats it.

I don't know the punishment but my advice is simply to explain to the judge your circumstances. If you've got a record and have caused trouble in the past, don't expect any leniency. Otherwise, I'd imagine you'll only be fined (and don't forget court costs).

This could be a Felony in some places, with a Prison sentence!! Better get a Public Defender when you go to court. Plead not-guilty at your first hearing.
