Do you have pain that radiates down one of your cheeks and into your leg? If so, you probably have sciatica, which is:
"low back pain and/or leg pain that usually travels down the large sciatic nerve, from the lower back down the back of each leg, generally referred to as sciatica and is fairly common. This pain can be caused when a nerve root in the lower spine that helps form the sciatic nerve is pinched or irritated."
You would need to see a doctor for diagnosis. It can be controlled through strengthening exercises.

It could be the lack of good lumbar support in the chair you are using at the computer. I suffered from lower back pain and had an operation on L4-L5 disc, which actually made things worse. It COULD be your kidneys (try drinking cranberry juice and see if that stops it... a glass a day for about a week), but if you are at a computer all day, it could very well be your lumbar spine. Exercise could help. I'd try a chiropractor before I let a surgeon remove disc tissue, though.

I have 3 herniated disks in my lower back, if you are sleeping in a way that somehow pinch the nerve in your back, it is probably that. If you continue to hurt I would see a Dr becuase he can diagnose you for sure.
It could be back related and it could be something else. I know from experience with this and talking to other with back injuries usually sitting for a while is really painful so it might not be your back at all.
At any rate I hope you feel better!

It sounds like what happens when my sciatic nerves pinch. It hurts A LOT! I usually just get my husband to massage it (pretty hard). It hurts at first, but it often helps release the nerves. Sometimes I take Robax Platinum. I don't like taking pills, either, so I try to avoid this. If you can take the time, lay down for a while with your knees up. Another stretch you can do is get on your hands and knees and arch your back up like a cat and let it sag just a little. Don't let it sage too much because it might hurt. Stretching up helps to release the tension in your muscles and helps relieve a pinched nerve.
Good luck with it. Hopefully this helps a little bit!

Your lumbar disk is out of alignment, go to chiropractor but only to a good one, there's not many of them, others will try to make you patient for life, telling you that you need regular adjustments. All you need is a x-ray to see where is the misalignment, and he can put it back in its place, you will feel the pain but you can tell the difference between the two pains. After that take it easy for at least three days so tendents have time to tighten up, and you'll be fine. Make sure you do not do sudden tossing in your sleep. God bless!

There are so many good answers on here!
I will always have the threat of back problems--I say it this way, as it comes and goes. My problems? The Sciatic nerve at times. And, discs that are disintegrating in my lower back. I have had surgery on one disc that ruptured.
I would go to your doctor, as they do not always just give pain pills. Mine sent me to a back specialist. That is what I needed.

Try a chiropractor, acupuncturist or massage therapist.
Go to a medical Dr. and, yup! all he'll do is Rx pills and recommend surgery, right?
Bed rest doesn't usually help - especially in your case!
Do nothing and it will probably just go away, as usual, in a few days.
Ibuprofen may help, but you already know that.
Don't let it get you down too much!

You should do back stretches every day and get massages 3-4 times a week. If your back doesn't improve, then you should definitley see the doctor.

Probably sleeping on your spine or back is causing the problem, this cold weather, dry does not help, if you have pain in your legs or right leg its sciatica,
you have got to go to the doctor, it could be kidney stones!
....
Do stones run in your family?
