In Photoshop, how to fade from norm colors to grey scale?

In Photoshop Elements 2.0, how do you fade from the normal colors in the photo to a gradual grey scale? Use a transparent gradient?

You got it right! Use gradient and edit by adjusting the scale.

Yes, and one more suggestion set the gradient mode to saturation. (Use this on the same layer as your picture.)
