It is very easy to count words in a MS Word file but there appears to be no such function in MS Excel. I have to copy the text from Excel and then paste it in Word to count words but it consumes a great deal of time.

Is there any simpler method to count words in Excel?

You can use len() function. Divide this with a arbitrary number to get an estimated word count. Works fine except for bean counters who probably don't mind the extra step to get an exact answers.
