I would give a babysitter.. 15.00 a night, plus get a gift card for pizza and a soda.. this way she or he will be getting a little money, plus a meal... If she/he says no thanks to the food, then offer 20.00 total in cash.. no more than that... It isn't like they will have to do much of anything.... But definately introduce the baby and the sitter beforehand so they can get to know each other... this way your baby won't freak out if by some chance he wakes up while your gone... This way he will already know them...

As far as I know the going rate is 10-12 an hour. You might want to make sure your son meets the babysitter before he goes to bed just in case he wakes up and she's there and he doesn't freak out. Even if he's asleep she's still giving up a prime night of the week. A weekday one would expect to pay less.

We pay our sitter $9 an hour. She usually has a couple hours with my daughter before she goes to bed~ and the rest of the time she watches TV and waits for us to return. The way I see it, no matter what she is doing while she's there, she is giving up her Friday night, and her time is valuable. She is a college student, and could be getting paid at least that at another job. She's a wonderful sitter, and I think the couple dollars extra is worth it to keep her!

If the sitter is just there to hang out at your home while you're out, change a diaper every now and then, and not expected to feed the child a full meal or clean the house, and they're under 17 years old, I think $7 or so an hour is fine. It's not like it's strenous work. They're pretty much getting paid to hang out and watch TV.

I pay about $25.00 a night if my son is in bed and $10.00 an hour if he is awake. BUT my babysitter usually gets there when he is asleep so he just plays PS2 and eats junk food. Oh ya I buy him a snack and soda of his choice or a pizza for him and my son to split.

I live in Idaho, so the cost of living is WAY less than Brooklyn, but we paid $5/hour for the situation your describing when we had 1 kid (we'd virtually always have him asleep before the sitter showed up).

I never paid less than $5 per hr - per child.
I am sure it has gone up since I last used a babysitter.
