Do yourself one favor right now. Don't ever, ever, date a cop you work with, or don't work with for that matter. You will instantly lose your reputation, because guys talk. Keep your personal life separate from work, and don't bring your problems with you.
Everyone is "Sir" or "Ma'am". Always be respectful and work your a** off, because you never know who is watching. Keep yourself well groomed and sharp looking. Be confident, but not cocky. Study, study and then study some more.
Don't do anything outside of work, because I promise it will haunt you the rest of your life. If you get drunk with your buddies, act stupid and word gets back to your department, stand by. Remember, no matter what position you hold, you are an example of the department that you work for. Good luck to you.

Go totally subtle with the makeup, don't look like a big Bratz doll out there...
Most important of all, keep you mouth shut most of the time and listen and learn. You are already different if you are truly feminine, but the mouth shut advice totally goes for new guy cops too. I am telling you this in total sincerity, cops HATE new cops who haven't seen or done anything but run their mouths. It drives us nuts, because you haven't "earned the right" to talk too much. It may seem harsh, but it is so true.
Even among cops there are different "classes" in some respects. If a guy with 1 year on starts spouting off his tremendous war stories that nobody cares about, some of us feel like this slick sleeved rookie (meaning you don't have any of the 5 year service marks on your lower sleeve yet) shouldn't talk so much. By the time I had 4 hash marks on my sleeves, I had to work real hard to not be mean to rookies, I know they were trying to fit in.
Just be serious, yet able to laugh when you make a boo boo, we all have done something similiar. Pay attention and study, don't party all the time. The other poster was right about not getting hammered, or dating people you work with, it causes so many problems, when things don't work out guess who gets the rep for being "easy" or whatever the guy scorned may say.
Be careful, it's a hard job, but I wouldn't trade my time in uniform for anything (OK, maybe 5 million bucks, but even that wouldn't really be enough).
p.s. my sister is a cop also and she told me when I started out "always go to the bathroom when you get a chance, cause you don't know when you will have another chance!"

You need to talk to my sister girl! She is 22 and has been working as a constable in Ontario, Canada for a couple years now. She fits right in with the other police officers. She does her job, listens to advice or criticism but doesn't take it personally. She stays out of business that is not hers. She doesn't flirt. She doesn't date on the job. She doesn't try and be someone she is not.
Act professional. Be yourself. Do your job to the best of your ability. Good luck!
A Police Officers Prayer
LORD, I ask for courage
Courage to face and
conquer my own fears...
Courage to take me where others will not go...
I ask for strength
Strength of body to protect others,
and strength of spirit to lead others...
I ask for dedication
Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
to keep it safe...
And please, LORD, through it all,
be at my side...

Be yourself . Who cares what other people think. You want people to like you not some fake image. Always work hard and put forth the most effort and you will be respected.

Don't flirt and/or flaunt.
Speak the same way to the females and the males.
Try to hang out with the females as opposed to the males. It's harder to become friends with females than males.
Make it your personal policy to never date anyone you work with.

Learn a few off-color jokes, and then randomly tell them to other cadets. Use foul language sometimes. It will toughen up your image and make you more like "one of the guys".

Be very attentive and take everything in. Don't flirt and don't be outspoken. Once you're through your training you can start to lighten up and have fun.
