Strange but when I first read your question , I just clicked over it, but it kept bugging me, I'm not sure why.
I am a fully qualified 'old folk'!
"When I was a kid" I was always fed up of hearing that "When I was a kid"!!!! I was also fed up with all the reminiscing .
"I could go out for the night with 2shillings and sixpence in my pocket, go to the pictures have six pints of beer, get a fish supper and 10 woodbine cigarettes on the way home, and still have enough to last me all week"!!
However I also recall treating the old folk with respect (deserved or not) So while I may have been thinking 'silly old far* I would never think of saying that out loud.
Now back to your question , I have found to my disgust that I occasionally venture into this world of reminiscing , "I remember when"etc etc. I try not to because I understand how boring it must be to young folk, and there is no doubt it is boring!
Now, having read your question a few times over, I fail to see the point of it? I am not questioning your sincerity and I am most likely the odd man out here, I don't pretend to be able to speak on behalf of all old folk , and I'm also probably one of those miserable 'difficult' type of old folk!
The truth is I have grand children coming out of my ears , while my wife thinks this is all 'great' and 'fantastic' I dont share that opinion, I dont know what an i pod is I know what a pea pod is, I dont care what the young think about the old, you ask "can we solve old peoples problems"?
I personally dont have any, not even with young folk , they are the same to me as if we had visiting Martians with antenna sticking out of their heads !! But I always try to allow them some dignity and thats all I ask for in return.

Old people have aids.

Hearing aids
Walking aids
Driving aids
Sleeping aids
Waking up aids
Digesting food aids
Heart aids
Cholesterol aids

And the list goes on.

Seriously, the older people among us have a wealth of knowledge and experience that many young folks either don't or won't recognize. Add to that, the fact that old and young is relative. A philosophy professor once told me the difference between old and young is 30 years and the person doing the evaluating is precisely in the middle. So if you are 45 years old a person 30 would be considered young and person 60 (that's me) would be considered old. I have probably tested that theory 1000 times in the last 40 years and it has never failed to work. Right how I consider a person 45 to be a kid and a person 75 to be decrepit.

Based on your question, specifically the truncated “text speak”, I would judge you to be 12 to 16 years old. And you may be having some trouble getting your parents to allow you the freedom to do something. If this is the case, I can assure you the old people don't have any problems you could fix even if you wanted to. You see in many cases the children are the problems old people have to deal with...

If I have completely misjudged you, I would invite you to detail some of the specific problems us old people have. If I have goofed, and it is entirely possible, would you let me know? I can be reached through my profile and would be interested in further discussion on the issue.

Have a good day and a better tomorrow.

The older people get the further away from the activities, problems and things that the younger generations are interested in.

The very old people, 75--80 years of age, if they still have sharp minds, know things that younger people have to study and learn about from books. They lived through many historic things that have happened in the World. Unless they are cranky or don't want to talk about such things, you might be pleasantly surprised to listen to history come alive in their experiences.

Adults between 50 and 74 are sometimes still busy making it work in their life--jobs, running a family, and other matters that age group deals with.

Adults from 25 to 49 are still climbing the ladder, or trying to keep ahead in their positions both at home &/or at work.

The point here is that life is a struggle at any age.

The real young people are into everything new and wonderful about life on Earth, the Internet, school, clothing, etc.

You asked about adjusting, solving old people's problems, especially when they live in your home. Sure, they get cranky, they don't like today's music, loud noises, new things sometimes irritate them, too.

The next time an old person tests your patience...let's say it's the music you're playing...ask what kind of music they liked when they were your age (it was probably loud and raucious, too, every generation has had its "music to die for" and that's probably "in your face" of the older generation.

Drawing a person into the present moment can be fun and enlightening. Put aside frustration and seeing things as problematic. Start a conversation and let the fun begin.

Solving other people's problems has to be more specific to be answered in proper form. I'm giving you a general idea of the generations and what makes them tick. Fortunately, every individual has his own personal treasure hidden inside...dare to go treasure hunting.

Old people are getting younger. Many, due to better health, are taking up pastimes and activities which used to be the preserve of the young.

A lot are also embracing new technology, and enjoying life to the max.

Increasingly, young people are getting left behind.

I don,t know what you are calling old? you never gave an age limit or a suggestion of what old is........My doctor is 62,and my dentist is 51,and my accountant is 59 so im not sure what age you are talking about....You see these people might be old to you but they are highly professional and much smarter than I ,so please add some type of age to your question...

most of my old people are pretty fun to hang around, and funny too. but it's interesting hearing about COOL things that they've done in the past. not the boring crap people usually get. i think we can adjust but not many people want to.
