If you will be changing your bedding (comforter or duvet) as well as your wall colour, you will have to think about what you like. A good place to start is to look at your clothes. If you wear a lot of bright colours, chances are you will be happiest with a bright bedroom, maybe raspberry or tangerine with some lighter colour used to keep it from looking too vibrant. On the other hand, if your clothes are mostly dark and somber colours, you'll want to explore your options with the deeper shades like grey-green, grey-blue, maybe burgundy or even brown. Whatever you choose, try looking at similar colour schemes on a website like www.glidden.com or www.benjaminmoore.com and clicking on colour visualizer or colour viewer to make sure you like it.

If you have to keep some of the stuff in your room which limits your colour options, like bedding or curtains, you have no choice but to stick with a colour scheme that won't clash horribly. If this is the case, just choose the colour from the pattern that you like best. Good luck.

If the trim moldings around your doors ar natural wood. Anything goes. One of my daughters went with a light ocean spray blue color, the other, a nasty light purple. If your trim around the floors is painted, do not try to match it. Go with a contrasting color. Too much of the same color including trim and walls makes you feel you're on top of your room instead of in it. My wife and I have a light orange cantaloupe color in our room. Living room is a flat extremely light green. If you want something brighter go for it but always contrast the molding. Paint your with ceiling white its a special off color white that resists dripping when you roll it on.
Good Luck, I'm sure you'll come up with a bright light warm color.

What ever color you like BUT I know that might be difficult with some parents, so what I do with my clients is let the teen pick their color from a swatch that has about 7 different shades of a color and then let the parent pick a color from that this way you compromise and you'll end up with the color you like or some what close, have fun and good luck!

Paint each wall a different color. Get a big, dry sponge, and touch it to the paint while it's still wet for a cool texture!! Use semi-gloss paint, looks better than flat, and reflects light well. Have fun, it's your room, have it reflect your personality!!
