I have a friend who says her name is italian

Zaslow is a LAST name. It appears to be a Jewish last name, so perhaps she is an Italian Jew, or has Jewish descendants.

Brennus is correct. It sounds like that name has originated in Poland as I am 1/2 Polish myself.

I think Rabbityam is right. Most surnames ending in -ow, whether Jewish or Gentile, originated in Poland or eastern Germany. There are just a few however, that are of Cornish (Celtic) origin.
