No, this is a travesty of justice and it makes me sick. I live in New Jersey and have followed this case to see how poorly justice is administered to people here. 16 months for starting a fire that killed 5 people , what a joke.

Absolutely not, the DA on this case should have not accepted a plea and let it go to court where these to college students would have been convicted by a jury and been sentenced to 30 years.
Personally I think they should get life they killed 3 people because of there stupidity

For those interested, here's the story:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-11-15-seton-hall-fire_x.htm
Murder is defined as "the killing of a human being by a sane person, with intent, malice aforethought (prior intention to kill the particular victim or anyone who gets in the way), and with no legal excuse or authority."
This situation is two guys who set a banner on fire as a prank.

There's more to this story than you have told us. No 16 months is not enough time for someone responsible for 5 deaths, but then neither is 5 years enough time.. I would like to know about this case.. It doesn't make sense.

You give no support for this claim, and I can guarantee you that there is no state in the country in which the maximum term for murder is five years. Get your facts straight before you ask a question.
ADD: As I thought, there was no murder here. The two fellows were convicted of arson, not any form of homicide. They were not found responsible for the tragic deaths that occurred as a result of the arson. Five years is a very stiff sentence for arson for young men with no record, even with parole available in 16 months.

That cant be all the facts of the case. You can't kill 5 people and only do five years. You get more time than that for having drugs on you. Theres got to be more to this than what you wrote.

This is exactly why the criminal justice system is ofter referred to as the CRIMINAL INJUSTICE SYSTEM. The victims are the one who are getting shafted by the very people who are suppose to look out for their rights under the law.

I'm not sure what the law says. I think it sounds ridiculous. I would think they would get much much much more time.
If that is what they get, then hopefully they will be judged in the afterlife too!!!

Did they set the fire intentionally? They should be burned alive.
