Historically, catastrophic changes in the climate has caused extinction events. Supervolcanoes and big meteor hits have been the culprits.

Our present extinction event is being caused by a superpredator -- humankind. We hunt creatures to extinction. We destroy habitat. We introduce new predators into previously isolated island environments. We change habitats.

Man is dominant. Survival of the fittest. As our population increases man keeps building where animals live,,pushes them out.
