My daughter is going to be starting school next year and I am just wondering, what's better? Private school or Public school? The tradition with this family is that the children go to a religious private school that teaches tolerance, teaches them of their faith, and teaches them of other faiths. The school that we've used has a very good security system and nobody but parents or named individuals is even allowed on the property. The children each have an assigned number, and when school is out they remain indoors until a parent says their number. The teachers also look at the child's face to see if they recognize the person and have a good reaction. If strangers are found on the property, or even if you're a relative and they dont know you, security is on you faster than metal to a magnet. But Public school also exposes the children to all faiths and all ethnicities. So I'm debating with myself on this one becuase I have to enroll her soon. What is your opinion?

There is a school. It's a private religious school. It's a few blocks away from my house.

This school has everything a public school does. They even have a volleyball team. There are other teams, but I know of the volleyball one because of when I went to pick up my niece. They were practicing in the gym downstairs. They also have a pool.

When did I say ethnicity should be a factor???? I said security, and I also pointed out that public also had the merit of having more exposure and i was considering both. It wasn't meant to be a racist question so don't turn it into one.

Why the anger over a question of shooling? You know what? I don't think that's you. She's not a good person, but somehow I don't think that's her.

Private or home school is the only option. Public school has ruined the life of millions.

All else being equal, as the child will not be living in an all Muslim society, I would say public school. However, I would have to evaluate the quality of curriculum of both schools. Some public schools are great, some not so great. Most have significantly beefed up security, many to the same extent of your private school. It depends mostly on whether your child can get a good education in your public school. Like I said, if all appears to be equal, I would choose public school for the exposure to a representative sample of society and supplement my child's religious and cultural learning at home.

I think that it all depends on the child and what they need. I would say pray about it as well.

I went to a private school and I hated it, I also went to a public school and hated it. School is never an easy thing and all different types of schools have their little "things" to deal with. It just depends on what you want to deal with.

Just please do not be confused on decieved into thinking that just because a school is a religious school, that they do not have kids going their that are not religious or act according to what you would expect.

Some kids at private schools can be worst. The biggest things is to teach your children the issues and things that you feel is important for them to know, and teach them their values. Do not be like other parents that expect for the schools to do it. You may lose your child if you look at it this way!

That depends entirely on where you live. Some private schools are good, some bad. Some public schools are good, some bad.

Evaluate the school on its own merits. One thing though, is that private schools are usually smaller. This has its advantages, but it ALSO has disadvantages: private schools seldom have the facilities of public schools -- like big gyms, computer labs, etc.

Also, bare in mind that public schools are held to a standard that private schools are not. So the baseline of what a public school has to provide is actually a lot higher, but that isn't to say that any given private school doesn't voluntary strive for similar or even higher standards.

That depends on the schools in your area. Is the public school system a good one? Private school could be better if the teacher to child ratio is smaller. I would strongly discourage a private school that is affiliated with a religion.

I agree with Jerry, Home-school is best when you can put your whole self into it.
Private school that teaches your faith is the next best.
Public school can be a good education if you live in a good district, but it will never be able to teach your child the things that are the most important to you.

I would say the private school. Some private schools are not good--but this one sounds excellant. And your child is likely to get a far better educaation. I would be wary of choosing public school for a young child on the basis of exposing them to other faiths. In and of itself its a great idea--but you will also expose her to a lot of other things she may be too young to handle. Better to save that for when she's older--say in high school.

Sounds like the private school has a reasonable level of safety and at least pays lip service to tolerance. On the other hand there is a lot of socialzation in public schools which is good depending on your child.

I'd recomend a good montessori school, if one was available to you.

Two things: 1) You shouldn't force your child into a religion at such an early age. Children will believe what people tell them, they're too young to comprehend religious ideas on their own. 2) You shouldn't overly shelter your child. There is such a thing as being over protective. Children must learn how the real world works and they won't be able to do so unless they live in the real world.

hmm interesting.

i grew up in a christian chool (private). it was good, though im not christian i think it was decent. if i had a child i would probably start them off in a private school. changing to public possibly around highschool unless the private school had different kinds of elective classes, my school only had band, choir, and pe. so i got next to no classes that were job related.

all honesty id start my child in private.
