My daughter is going to be starting school next year and I am just wondering, what's better? Private school or Public school? The tradition with this family is that the children go to a religious private school that teaches tolerance, teaches them of their faith, and teaches them of other faiths. The school that we've used has a very good security system and nobody but parents or named individuals is even allowed on the property. The children each have an assigned number, and when school is out they remain indoors until a parent says their number. The teachers also look at the child's face to see if they recognize the person and have a good reaction. If strangers are found on the property, or even if you're a relative and they dont know you, security is on you faster than metal to a magnet. But Public school also exposes the children to all faiths and all ethnicities. So I'm debating with myself on this one becuase I have to enroll her soon. What is your opinion?

Home-school is best when you can put your whole self into it.
Private school that teaches your faith is the next best.
Public school can be a good education if you live in a good district, but it will never be able to teach your child the things that are the most important to you.

It really depends on the school system. Some areas have WONDERFUL public school systems, other areas have really AWFUL schools. Private schools can also be really good or really bad.
You need to do your homework and research the public and private schools in your area.
I went to public school from K-10 and an EXCELLENT private boarding school for my last 2 years of high school. In my experience, the public schools were sufficient and exposed my to a variety of people, traditions and cultures. But those last two years were the two years of my life during which I learned the most academically, interpersonally and about different cultures. (My boarding school had girls from all over the world though)
I'm sending my kids to private school so long as we can afford it.

All schools have tours available and they're great for seeing the classrooms, learning about the curriculum, really a time to grill the staff. Not every school is the same. When my daughter was going to start Kindergarten, we toured about 4 different elementary schools and fortunately, our school district has a lottery system in place if you don't want to go to your neighborhood school. Happily, she got into the public magnet school which has the best curriculum out of all the elementary schools. If you want to stay with private, take a tour of other schools that are non-religious. There are a lot of options and best to see all of them.

Depends! Some public schools suck (e.g., LA Unified). Other are good.
My kids all went to public school. As long as the school isn't really bad, like in Los Angeles, if you keep on top of things, you can be OK.
My kids went to a public (magnet type) school in Simi Valley CA that was suppose to be wonderful. You had to apply to get in and there was a long waiting list. My son had a teacher that was verbally abusive, told him that we didn't love him in front of us, didn't work with him (ADHD) and the sucky principal and the school district stuck up for the teacher.

Honest if you want a good education for your child go with the private school. There is no guarantee with a public school that next year the school will still have the same standards as this year. At private because you pay you have a say!!

Religious schools teach tolerance? Some of the worst bigots I know went to religious schools LOL
It really depends on what your disctrict is like. I live in a medium size ciry and there are several elementary schools. I moved from one district so my daughter can go to a new school because her previous school was poorly run. Ask around and get opinions.

"teaches tolerance, teaches them of their faith, and teaches them of other faiths"
How good is it at teaching them education? That is going to be the key to the future, and the - in my opinion - main thing to consider. What are the exam results like?
The advantage of a private school is that they TEND to attract better quality teachers, and have smaller classes.

I believe public or the best school a child can go to because they have better educations that you can get in a public school private is more like a all girl or boy school and they don't have all the stuff like a public school have so i think public is the best school a child can go to!

Observe both schools and use your parental instincts to decide which one fits best for your family. Location and services may persuade you one way or another so find out all you can. Ideally, you will have made the right choice and your daughter will grow up to be everything she can be. I wish you and yours well.

Homeschooling.
You can teach the religious beliefs you want and you can select the groups of children that your children hang out with at homeschool functions.
You are there to let your kids know what YOU expect of their behaviour and they learn self control and get a good education.
