It seems to speed up the thought process and improve focus. It's almost as if the outside world slows down. It tends to make people more decisive (not necessarily making better decisions though). It increases tolerance to pain. It helps the person ignore distractions.

The "high" of an adrenaline rush will be followed by a "down" when it subsides.
