I am not a Christian...restate that, I am 'no longer' a Christian, I have officially unbaptised myself. I became so tired of the unquestioning blind faith, the illogical arguments, the lack of reasoning, the acceptance of church-edited, church-censored ancient and multi-translated writings as 'the word of god'...well enough said. It is accepted, because it is positioned as the word of god. It is accepted because people are threatened with the prospect of hell for non-believers. It is accepted because conformity is mandated. It is accepted because having blind faith in the good book is rewarded.

Magnificent question, and the answers have been very revealing and show the difference between those who have blind faith and those who consider blind faith to be immoral.
Jay's answer was a perfect example of the mindset of the blindly faithful: "That which is in the Bible, and is stated as God's will, is good. It just is. Deal with it. We may not understand it, nor need we understand it, in order for it to be good."
This response reminds me of an exchange between an atheist and a fundamentalist Christian in the magnificent play _Inherit the Wind_.
Christian: "I do not think about things I do not think about?"
Atheist: "Do you ever think about things that you DO think about?"
What I'd like to know is, what horrific crimes are newborns and toddlers capable of committing that would cause God to consider them "evil and wicked"?
"God is in charge, not us.... We are His slaves...willing slaves"
Not I. I do not believe being a slave to anyone or anything is good or desirable. Slavery is immoral. A god who makes slaves of men, women, and children is not moral. A god who murders is not moral. Or doesn't "for every tree is known by its own fruit" (Luke 6:44) apply to deities?

Most christian sects say the trinity is spelled out in the Bible, but nowhere does it say the word Trinity, or the way the most sects believe the trinity to be. I don't believe in the Trinity. Most christians say that makes me not christian. I believe in Christ, but not in the Trinity as they believe in it.
Also, God may have drowned everyone, but they were given fair warning that is was going to happen. They had a chance to change their ways, and they decided not to. That is their fault. Yes, I know you think I'm defending it, but it makes sense to me.
I don't think that everything in the bible is correct. I believe that there has been some changes made, by man, that changes some of the meaning of some of the scriptures.

The Bible is an account of man's interaction with God, told mostly from man's point of view. There's alot in there already that I do not defend, but not because of God. It is because they are acts of evil men.

Hmm, no one ever asked me that question before.
If it were anything, then it would only prove my ignorance to the fact that God can never be put in a box.
In other words, if I were to not defend any thing, then it's most likely because I do not know why he meant what he said in the Bible. I would be too immature to understand and therefor, as a sinning human being, I would be probably end up questioning God.
But it hasn't happened yet!

I believe that the bible is *based* on real events, and is not a history book.
People who over analyze the bible have a lot of time on their hands that could be better spent doing something else.
I am 'Christian' although that is a broad term.. It's like saying I am Canadian, or I am a Woman, or I have a job. There are many others out there with the same attributes, but who aren't the same at all.

There are things in the Bible that God did that I dont understand, and I dont say "well hey that's fine" because regardless of what I think of it, God is still God and I am still just a man. God is only subject to Himself, not my laws nor man's laws, nothing. Whatever HE wants to do He can.... now dont think this doesnt make me mad sometimes but I am humble enough to say "Im not God, I cant expect to understand why He did this"
But then think for a minute, what if God only allowed bad things to happen to bad people? How would we ever learn to care for one another? I dont think that if God spared all good people and children that we would ever learn to respect Him or eachother. Bad people would only be able to hurt bad people and there would be no affect on good people. OR, as you mention about the babies. If the Bible showed that all children are righteous, what would stop people from just killing them to spare them of the wrongs in the world??
Sometimes, deep thinking is nessisary.

I don't base my cultural views on what the bible says, as the bible was written by man, and therefore fallible. Yes, God spoke the words to men he thought were trustworthy, but as seen before, God trusted Adam && Eve and we see how they failed him. There are a lot of things in the bible that I don't agree with. One of which being the whole 'anti-homosexual tirade' that most Christians justify by saying is a sin.
But then, they ignore the fact that one of the biggest sins, which is murder, is committed daily and is written off as excusable. The Bible has been written over numerous times, and changed to fit the tone of the time period. [example: Over the time period of the Spanish Inquistition, the verse was changed from 'Thou shalt not suffer a whore to live' to 'Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live'.]
To end, of course there are things in the bible that I won't defend. I'm NOT fine with everything that's in there, but that doesn't mean I'm going to Hell, or that I don't believe in God.

Good question!!--From Unicorns & flat earth--though to genocide, pornography & barbaric murders--the Bible has it all--yet there are still fanatics who will literally defend this nonsense to the death!!Even Christ pointed out where the Torah was completely in error--eg--Christ said "an eye for an eye" was WRONG---that divorcing your wife with a personal letter was WRONG--that stoning an adulteress to death was WRONG --Yet bible-bashers ignore Christ & still insist every word is true--so--bottom line-- if these religious bigots refuse to believe what their Lord says--it seems a grievous waste of time trying to make them see sense--oh---& beware of the "out of context" excuse--it's the most common fall-back line when they are completely cornered .--:]

There is no need to "defend" the Bible.
That is the definition of Faith, my dear friend. The Bible represents God's Word (which is Living), based on Faith. The Judeo-Christian religion is based on Faith, not science, fear, confusion, deceit, or some joker's personal rendition of God.
And since neither of us are God, He makes the decisions, and we have no right to judge Him. God was not made in Man's Image (as much as mankind tries to do over & over), but man was made by God's design in His Image. Since He decided to start the world all over again, He had his reasons, these reasons are stated.
Like it, or lump it.
