Obviously you are not a true Christian, as you have set yourself busy telling lies.
The obvious lie in your false accusation?
"Russell's Adventist background."
Seventh Day Adventist has not yet been declared. Though Russell did have a study with and publish literature with those that founded the Adventist movement, when they refused to stick to scripture he, separated from them.
Next,"a Pennsylvania businessman." CT Russell, when dedicating himself to the study of scripture, did so wholeheartedly. He immersed himself 100% into the pursuit.
The fact is Jesus return to power was indeed in 1914.
The proof? Jesus cast Satan and the demons to the earth!
What other notable event do you recall happened starting in 1914?
Nowhere in the Bible is the doctrine of the trinity, this teaching originated over hundreds of years starting with the councils of the apostate church.
So by default, as the teaching of the trinity started in earnest in the 4th century, why is you accept it as truth?
I would love to see the day when all you JW bashers, would organize your rank and file to volunteer to go out preaching the over 1.5 billion hours they do every year.( With only 6,000,000 members)
The reasons that you don't are:
1. You are to selfish.
2. You are to lazy.
3. You do not know the truth about God, and his son Jesus.
4. And as a result of the first three reasons, you do not have God's Holy Spirit!
(I am not a JW, I am just tired of people telling lies about them!)

i'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I keep on with the Christ as my religious chief. All my beliefs are depending on the bible, and not in any respect on guy-made doctrines nor those that are in accordance with pagan or mythological religions. They came round recently with their worldwide message: "THE END OF FALSE RELIGION IS NEAR!". In it they claim false religion meddles in war and politics, spreads false doctrine (the immortal soul) and tolerates immoral sex. They then launch into a graphic description of the harlot and the wild beast in Revelation and say all false religion (depicted by the harlot) will be devoured by the beast (the world's political powers) They then claim that they are the true religion. In other words, folks, if you're not a JW, you're doomed to destruction because you are part of false religion. This is because, according to them, only they have the truth. They, and only they, will survive the still imminent battle of Armageddon (it's been imminent since 1914).
I posted a question a few days ago on this - and it was withdrawn on the basis that I had insulted other participants. I don't know who I insulted, and I don't know why they felt insulted. Why they couldn't have just emailed me I don't know. Anyway, if the insulted party has answered your question and would like to contact me, I would be delighted to extend an apology - once I know what it is I have to apologise about.
Hope your question doesn't get withdrawn before you can vote on a best answer!

What does it mean to be a true Christian?
Jesus said to love our God with our whole being, Love your neighbor as yourself, and to preach the word.(Matt 22:37 Mark 16:15 II Timothy 4:1-2)
This surprisingly eliminates Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, and Jews who don't teach to preach the word.
But seems to be in agreement with Matthew 7:14 - "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
That leaves us with Baptists, Pentecostals, Adventists, Jehovah Witnesses, and Mormons.
Mark 7:13 says not to mix human traditions with the Creators. So we want to stay away from any thing that has been polluted with pagan beliefs.
The Worship of Mithros (Christmas), Day of the Dead (Halloween), The Spring Equinox of Ishtar (Easter), The Day Between Years (New years), Festival of Lights (St. Valentine's Day), The Feast of Brigid (the Pagan Trinity doctrine), Oimelc (ground hog day), Lughnasadh (Thanksgiving), ect....
What group is left over that does not participate in any of the above? Is a True Christian...

Most religions Christian or not, believe that their faith is the right one. If not, why would that person practice that religion?
The bible does tell us that there is "one Lord, one faith" Eph 4:5 and Jesus said that "Narrow is the gate and cramped the road to life, and few are the ones finding it...Not everyone saying to me Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will." Matt. 7:13, 14 & 21 also see 1 Cor. 1:10
Repeatedly the Scriptures refer to the body of true Christian teachings as "the truth" and Christianity is spoken of as "the way of the truth" (1Tim 3:15; 2 John 1: 2 Pet. 2:2) Because Jehovah's Witnesses base all of their beliefs, their standards for conduct, and organizational procedures on the Bible, their faith in the Bible itself as God's Word gives them the conviction that what they have is indeed the truth. So their position is not egotistical but demonstrates their confidence that the Bible is the right standard against which to measure one's religion. They are not self-centered but are eager to share their beliefs with others.
Yes, we do not feel that the Bible teaches a burning Hell, but that Hell is the common grave of mankind and the "dead are conscious of nothing" Ecc. 9: 5 & 10 or that God is a Triune God, which is borrowed from pagan sources and was developed in its present form centuries after Bible writings were completed.
Bible calculations show that the Gentile Times ended in 1914 and Jesus began ruling in heaven.
Everyone is welcome to come to my door and share their beliefs, if they feel they have found the truth.

Actually, yes, I did know all of that except for one thing you mentioned that is not factually correct.
You stated that Russell concluded that the second coming of Christ would occur in 1914. Actually, Russell was convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that the second coming had already occurred in the year 1874 and that Jesus had returned to the earth in that year in an invisible spirit body.
He pointed to the year 1914 as the year that God would fully establish his kingdom in the earth and cancel the 'lease' of the Gentile nations by removing them from power. Of course it didn't happen, but Witnesses have simply redefined the "Gentile times" and declared that they were right about 1914.
I was a JW for several decades and I am telling you the truth. Many newer JW's may not even know about 1874 but I promise you it is the truth and can be easily proven from the older WT publications. Many JW's are also unaware that Russell taught that the Time of the End began in the year 1799.
I'm not sure why someone would object so vehemently to you saying that Russell had an Adventist background. It was not Seventh Day Adventist, but he was definitely influenced by the same Adventist movement that also produced the Seventh Day Adventists. WT publications have often referred to Russells Adventist connections, particularly the "Proclaimers" book.

Churches make that claim of other churches within their own religion, especially when it comes to issues such as Abortion, Gay Rights, and Ordination of Women. Right now, the Episcopal Church is foreclosing on several of their churches who will not abide by the decisions of the national board on Gay Priests.
I have a regular taxi passenger who travels 10 miles to go to church, passing up churches of the same religion, along the way. She says they don't have the blessings of the Holy Spirit, and the one she goes to does.
The same thing is going on in every religion, except the JWs. They have lasted over 100 year without a congregation branching off to form their own religion.
As for the group dating back only to 1879. Using that logic, consider that Christians only date back 2000 years. Judaism predates it and considered Christianity a cult. A very learned man, Saul of Tarsus could prove it beyond any doubt. It took a miracle to change his mind.
As for what the may or may not have been in the beginning, at least their grew in their knowledge of the Bible, with every member encouraged to read the King James, completely, and submit their ideas. The Governing board is made up os every day people, like Peter who was a fisherman and Matthew who was a tax collector. Both had no formal education.
As for hell fire and the trinity? You just figuring that out. Many religions do not teach that, and there are many Bible that do not promote it.

Other people who called themselves “Christians” label JWs as cults, even a dangerous cult. Unfortunately, people who don’t check the information directly from JWs has become biased.
At least Russell did not steal money nor become rich by getting money from people.
At the age of twenty-five, in 1877, Russell began selling out his business interests and went into full-time preaching activity. He then was traveling from city to city delivering Bible discourses at public gatherings, on the streets and in Protestant churches. Because of this work, he became known as “Pastor” Russell. He determined to invest his fortune in the promulgation of the work, devote his life to the cause, prohibit collections at all meetings and depend on unsolicited contributions to continue the work after his own money was exhausted.
The topic of hellfire and Trinity will be a very lengthy one. If you are really interested to know the truth ask JWs when they come knocking at your door.
Here are some things to think about.
Trinity:
The Bible said that Jesus is the Son of God, God’s son, but never “God the Son” , why? Why did Jesus admit that his Source of Life, basically his Creator is , the Father. See John 5:26. God is the Creator, then how come, when on earth and in heaven, Jesus keeps on calling his Father, MY God. See Rev 3:12, John 20:17.
Hellfire:
God is a God of love as well, he won't torture someone forever and keep him alive forever. If you say that God will put someone in a fiery place of torment, and torture there forever LITERALLY, then basically you are saying that God is a TORTURER. If someone tortures you everyday, the rest of your human life, you don't call that person, a loving person. God will punish and annihilate the wicked people and will not give them everlasting life, that is their eternal punishment.
If you only live 20 years of your human life, and became a wicked person, is it fair to torture you not only 1 billion or 1 trillion years but forever, will you say that that is fair? If somebody lend you $20 and asked you to pay back $20 trillion for that, is that fair?
Please also notice that EVERLASTING LIFE is only given to those who EXERCISE Faith in Jesus and his Father (John 3:16, John 14:1) and NOT to those who do not believe and are disobedient and wicked. So if you say that wicked people have everlasting life as well, then you are in conflict with Jesus' teachings

Jehovah Witnesses are a cult, and many of their followers are deceived by the teachings and publications of the Watchtower and Tract Society. Sadly, most current witnesses do not have a clue about the past history of their organization.
Charles Russell utilized occult symbols on JW publications for years, and based many of HIS "failed prophecies" regarding the end, on pagan symbols and the Great Pyramid. In fact, the symbol of a pyramid sits over his grave to this day reflecting his beliefs. Coincidentally, Freemasonry also places importance on pyramids in their teachings.
Unfortunately, most Witnesses will quickly deny the above, and 99.9% will not take the initiative to research and confirm truth.
The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15, that we are to study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. In other words, we are not to believe everything presented to us in writing by humans and organizations. Blessings, Miji

Sure most all religions believe others are wrong. That's why we have separate religions. Otherwise we would all be just one big Christian religion believing the same thing. Why are you being hateful and trying to find fault with Jehovah's Witnesses. I see them out in the cold of winter collecting for the poor every winter while others are hurrying to a warm home. I see them providing meals and shelter for the unfortunate while others can't find time to lend a hand. What have you done lately for the poor except try to criticize those who are actually making a difference. The Jehovah Witnesses are good people. Why don't you pick on the Methodist or the Baptist?
