I am only 23 and have 2 beautiful kids. It was only 8 years ago that I was living in constant terror with my mother. I was not a "skinny" girl. I have always weighed around 150 and fit into size 10-12. My whole life my mother has continued to belittle and terrorize me for being so called "fat". My father is an over weight man and pretty much always has been nad never knew of the horrible things that she would say to me. It wasnt until I met my husband that I realized how horrible she really made me feel. When I met him I was 125 and still taking weight lose pills trying to be "pretty" and "thin". He was the first one ever in my life to tell me that I was too thin. I went to the doctor and found out that I WAS too thin for my "body build". I never knew that women had "builds" to their body and that was what you measured your weight on. Turns out that I was always the right size for the "build" of my body. Now 8 years and 2 kids later my mother still continues to tell me how over weight I am. Now I just try not to listen to it and know in my head that I am where I am suppose to be. I think that Mary Jane is totally right women are the ones that perpetuate this weight situation in our country. If you see a 180lb woman walking down the street what is the first thing that comes to mind? I believe that women need to learn to be comfortable with their bodies no matter what size you are.

Of course women and men in our society could change it, but seldom are people willing to make the changes required to really stop a culture fad, though hopefully it will become less popular in time.

As long as people buy magazines, Cosmo, Playboy, Glamour, etc that feature women with abnormally skinny models, women and especially young girls will want to to look like the models that are on the cover. As long clothes in the stores fit better on "skinny, no breast, no hip" bodies, girls will want to fit into those clothes. As long as the scale is the viewed as the ultimate guide to how sucessful a diet is, people will want to lose pounds, rather than just be healthier.

I think this will sound cruel but I am in a kinda grumpy mood today...anyways if people wanna starve themselves for "fashion" and end up dying cause their heart stops beating correctly cause they are so darn sick then i guess the world is rid of one less moron its dumb to call this fashionable and its dumb to think looking like a skeleton is pretty and my girls will be raised and told daily that they are beautiful no matter what cause thats the truth I am plain tired of media causing teenage girls to join in trends to be popular they know how it effects them thats why they do it and they should be more careful with such power
