We're looking for a judge, not a priest or minister of any kind, to officiate our wedding. I called the NYC clerk office, and they told me they could confirm whether someone was a certified officiant, but they would not release their list to me. Every web search I've done brings up various fringe religious officiants, but I haven't been able to find a single judge (either practicing or retired). The judge will need to go to our ceremony location in Brooklyn. Would appreciate any tips.

I don't know about New York, but I live in Chicago. What I did was found a Judges Association website. They were able to e-mail me a list of retired judges. I would see if New York has some type of Association not directly affiliated with the clerk office.

Also maybe consider a "celebrant". Here is one I found on the knot.com: www.julielaudicina.com

Good luck!

Judges can only marry in their jurisdiction, so if your wedding location is out of their area...then they can't do it. To find an officiant type into Yahoo this [your] citystateweddingofficiant (no 's' on the end) Several should turn up. And if you go to any of the bridal sites that list vendors/officiants for your area, visit the site of someone you think you might like. Those bridal sites make vendors & officiants PAY for your contact info so you might not hear back from some of your requests. And please don't eliminate someone like me. I perform civil ceremonies all the time, without any creeds or dogma involved. Good luck on your quest!

Judges usually can't go out of their jurisdiction. Who is the current presiding judge in that county's probate court? That is who you should be making an appointment with. I don't know why they couldn't tell you his/her name.

This is what I've found so far.
