Virus replication is unique in many aspects. It doesn't have to follow the rules of cellular replication. Viruses can use RNA to make RNA, RNA to make DNA to make more RNA, DNA to make RNA to make more DNA, single stranded DNA to make more single stranded DNA. Just about any possible combination.

Viruses also use one template to make many progeny, unlike cells who duplicate faithfully one template at a time.

also, viruses inject their genetic material into host cells that do their replication for them! they kind of trick the cell to do their work.
in that way they are very unique because they don't self-replicate.
