I have been on them for a few years. It may take trying more than one to find out which one works for you the best. I think I tried three. I am taking Wellbutrin XL. As far as side effects the main thing I notice is that I am more forgetful. The smaller side effects for me is that I am quicker to get angry. Lots better than depression.

Really each different medication is an attempt to balance the chemical composition of the brain. Some medicines work better for some people than they do for others. That's why when a patient is given a new medication they are also watched closely. Any ill effects must be reported, and these include some negative symptoms their doctor previously informed them of.
When a doctor proscribes new medications they go over the information with the patient, given medical directions in the case of an emergency situation, and are told the suspected outcome with continued treatment. Generally common side effects last for a month and then the brain becomes used to the amount of chemical they were given and apparently lacking in before. But this is all if the medication therapy was successful.
If someone commits suicide from an anti depressant generally they weren't seeing a therapist. There's no other reason why this should happen. Successful treatment can be a delicate balance or the patients personal will to get healthy, the psychiatrist's determination, medication and the amount thereof, and therapy. There are a lot of factors when it comes to successful rehabilitation.
Some medications work wonders for one person's brain chemistry, while other people may find it hard to function. It is not uncommon for people to get more depressed from a medication. This is because that wasn't the right one for them, you have to start somewhere and there are alot of anti depressants.

there are so many different kinds of anti depressants out there, the thing to do is if you start to have undesirable side effects, contact the prescribing doctor and they will be able to either modify your dosage or change the meds entirely. It usually takes a minimum of 30 days for these drugs to take effect, so you might want to keep a journal of any side effects or emotions you feel are odd. I felt suicidal before I started my meds, Celexa and Neurontin to help with depression and bi-polar disorder. Just don't give up if the first one you try doesn't work, there are many others to try, and when you find the right one, the difference in your life is amazing. GOOD LUCK!!!!

they could. Anti-depressants can bypass both strategies, they are meant to make it extra effective yet in certain circumstances they do the option. diverse manufacturers variety although, so that's in certain circumstances about "trial and mistake." no longer all anti-depressants have an same impression on each and every person, and he would want to attempt a diverse type- he ought to convey that up with the healthcare specialist too and not in any respect merely wait this out. It takes 7 to 21 days to start up to experience the impacts of the drugs, and also it takes that lengthy for it to go away your gadget notwithstanding that's been 3 weeks so he's hit the point the position he should be able to say "certain" or "no" to what he takes.

It all depends on the person and how they react to the medication. I have been on several different anti-depressants for the last 7-8 years and none of them have ever made me suicidal. You just have to watch your reactions and let your doctor know RIGHT AWAY if you feel that way. Personally, my life would be a lot worse if I didn't have anti-depressants. Good Luck with yours!

Forget what people say, they are not your health care provider nor your doctor....If your doctor says you need antidepressants you take them...No It is not true..People get clinical depression and have suicidial times, years ago they stuck those kinds of people off in some sanatarium because they were supposs to be crazy......Medically speaking we have come a long way since then and after lots of research we have found that these so called( crazy) people are suffering from simple depression...Doctors recommend antidepressants only to those who need it,dedicated doctors that has out best interest at heart...so follow your doctors advice, not lay people who have no medical experience,if you have problems discuss it with your doctor not with these people on yahoo answers....I am telling you this is for your own good, because people will tell you anything out of ignorance...It is true that medication can have side affects, but the side affects are very small if you compare them to the mental disease that you are suffering from...

depends, it can make ur emotions screwy if the dosage is wrong.. the main thing--- if you start feeling wierd {mean, weepy, unusually chippre} get to the doc, and ask them to modify ur dosage...
ive been on both prozac and effexor {effexor sucked} and neither one gave me emotional problems.. emotionally did well, effexor made me hungry tho.. gained 25 lbs in 5 weeks :(
they can be bad, they can be good... just like any other drug out there... u know?

they say they make you suicidal, who says that? They are supose to stop you from feeling that way.You go aheah and get on them. If they make you feel funny there is a whole lot of them out there to take.Just let your dr. know they make you feel funny and he will let you try another one. I started out on prozac and oh boy was that a mistake.I have 2 boys and that pill had me so irretable, and some other weird feeling, I started to abuse my children. So they took me off of prozac and put me on paxil. That paxil made me feel alot better. So no, I say it is not true. You go ahead and take care of yourself.

In *my* experience: (1) some cause chemical harm; (2) some delay coping with real issues; (3) some cause surprise moments of drowsiness in times that wakefulness is needed (e.g. driving a car); (4) some cause adverse reactions with other items (e.g., grapefruits, believe it or not!)
