Old Navy usually has pants with and without elastic in the waist for kids. Also, you may have to put a dart in the waist if you can't find pants with a small enough waist. You can put a dart in them yourself even if you don't have a sewing machine. Just pinch the amount you need taken up inside the waist band and sew it together, fold it over to the side and sew it down to the waist band (so it doesn't stick out and bother her). Good Luck!

Both of my daughters have this problem. The oldest is almost 4 and weighs 29 pounds. The youngest is almost 2 and weighs 20 pounds. They are both PERFECTLY HEALTHY, just a product of two small, slender parents. I have found adjustable waist pants at The Children's Place and Baby Gap. They still don't fit perfectly, but better. The only solution I have found that really works is lots and lots of dresses and shorts. In the wintertime is the only problem really.

My son is the same- he's really tall, very slim. He will be 5 in March, and though he looks slim because of how tall he is, he still weighs like 50lbs!!
Anyways, what I had to do for a bit is get pants that are the right length for him, and then cut open the waistband. Sew in a band of elastic leaving about 2 inches extra length. Sew the waistband closed, leaving about an inch of elastic on either side of the button. Sew buttons on the inside waistband and cut holes in the elastic-- then button the elastic band as tight as you need it to be- sounds like a lot of work but its like maybe 10 minutes, and you wont have pants falling down all the time... Sears has kids pants with elastic, too!

Get elastic from the fabric store and learn to sew it into the back of her pants to make them fit better. Practice on some cheap second hand ones. Darts are a little more complicated but look better.
Also almost all the 2T pants I have have elastic waist... so I don't know why you are having trouble, maybe just where you live? Try online?

Dont worry too much, if its genetic and you know that she's eating, then she's fine.
I always bought my girls clothes from Pumpkin Patch, because they have the adjustable waist. Whether you're buying for a thin child, a large child, or just buying bigger sizes for them to grow into, I really recommend them. They have elastic all the way around the tops of their pants, that you can pull tight, and attach onto a little button.
Look them up on the net www.pumpkinpatch.com

I wish I had a good answer for you my 2.5 yr old weighs 28 lb and he is very healthy. I do a lot of overalls with him. If I need to do pants I am sure to buy ones with the little ties or an elastic waist. I feel for you!

That's what we've always gone through with my daughter, we still do and she's 7. She wears a lot of dresses, they are easier. And we get the pants with the adjustable waist band. The Children's Place has a lot of those. We live in Germany and the store H & M has them too, and I think you can shop from H & M in the States, or maybe from their web-site. I know Levi's also makes some jeans with the adjustable waist, although not all of their jeans make them. I think a lot of other brands are going to them too, I know at our PX we have found several pair, and they are state-side brands.

My son has the exact same problem. He is 8, but needs a 6/7 waist. My other son has to have the "husky" sizes so buying jeans for either one of them has been a pain. Believe it or not, I can usually find them both jeans at Wal-Mart. I get the slim fit with the adjustable waist straps build in. I love those things!

My 3 year old daughter is very slim like yours-- I have a tough time finding pants that are long enough in the leg and small enough in waist to keep them from falling down!
Try Old Navy- their clothing (I have found) tends to run small, so maybe that will help you out, it did me. Otherwise, I just get belts or sweat pants/spandex pants that stretch and buy them a size small....she also wears a lot of skirts/dresses and overalls because of this.

If all else fails, find a local seamstress who could take in her pants to fit.
I understand your problem...I have a 6 year old son who has always been thin. He can still wear 24 month shorts...they are way too short but they fit around the waist.
I found a lady who makes dresses and does alterations. She wasn't too keen on working on small clothes as they are harder to work with I suppose. But, she has been altering his clothes since he was 3 and it's been a lifesaver for us.
Good Luck!
p.s. ignore your friends and family who say she looks malnouished....they mean well.
