Sexual intercourse outside of marriage is a mortal sin if it is done with full consent of the will (full freedom) and full knowledge that it is wrong|
The Bible does not say that this is true, but the Catholic Church teaches it|
After all, it was the Catholic Church that put together the Bible and determined its canon and contents|
You just have to check your history to see that this is true|
For example, in the first few decades of Christianity, there was no Bible|
It was all oral Tradition|
Then *some* of that was put into writing which is the New Testament that we have today|
Then for centuries after that, it was uncertain as to what constituted the New Testament|
Only about 400 years later did several Catholic councils and a pope determine and fix the canon of the 27 books of the New Testament that we have today|
Then it was formally ratified at the council of Trent (after Martin Luther's revolt) that the 73 books of the Bible are the only and complete canon of Scripture|
That was established as dogma at that council.
Martin Luther, by his own authority, removed seven books from the Bible so that the Protestant Bible has only 66 books|| ||
In 90 AD the Jews who had not converted to Christianity held a council known as *Jamnia*|
In it they removed the same seven books that the Protestants did.
They did this by rejecting the Greek version of the OT while retaining only the Hebrew version|
The Greek version includes these books, whereas the Hebrew version does not|
Protestants do not have these seven books because they too have rejected the Greek version retaining only the Hebrew version|
However, the Greek version was used by Jesus (He quotes from Isaiah to the Synagogue), and was used by the Evangelists and Christians at that time|
The Jews at Jamnia, as well as the Protestants rejected the Greek version because they had an agenda|
The Greek version tended to strongly support Jesus as the Messiah for the Jews, and tended to support the truth of the Catholic Faith for the Protestants|
That is why Luther found a way to dispose of it|
Purgatory is taught in Second Maccabees 12:38-46 where prayers and sacrifices are made for the dead who had sinned yet are saved.

The definition of sin is - Doing things your own way separate from and neglecting God's will. God's will is for all to be saved, healed and delivered - to live an abundant life. Also it is God's will for each of us to love Him and everyone as well as ourselves. This type of love is a genuine concern for the welfare of others and not the world's perception of love. Sin is sin. There are not different degrees of sin. One sin is not worse than the other. A murderer and a liar are equally at fault in God's eyes. Punishment under the law of the land however, is equal to the crime committed.

Ephesians 5:3 says: But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.
To me that means if you get into heavy petting, it's going to lead to thoughts of going further. We are to run away from temptation.
Making out is beyond just kissing so unless it's your spouse, run away from the hint of sexual immorality. Philippians 4:8 says:Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

*There is nothing wrong with kissing. It is the sexual things people do that is a sin. But that is if you beleive in the bible and beleive in sin.*

'Making out' leads eventually to sexuality. IF that sexuality is expressed outside of marriage, yes, it becomes sin. But it is not intended to be so.
