I do agree that the owner is the primary person responsible for the dog's behavior. However, some of the responsibility has to go to the breeder (if that is where the owner got it from). Pitbulls and other breeds of that nature are very impressionable -- if they are raised around violent dogs, then they will be violent for the rest of their lives regardless of the training the new owner may try. But I do think it is the owner's responsibility to do good research on the location from which they are getting the dog, and if it is a breed that tends to violence, then even more research needs to be done.

My husband says the best dog he ever had was a pitbull. Alot depends on what traits the animals are bred for in a specific kennel. Unfortunately, this breed has a bad reputation due to aggressive traits for dog fighting. Most of the time, the animal is not to be blamed for bad behavior. The breeder/owner is. However, animals of all species are born with just plain old nastiness in them from time to time which doesn't have anything to do with the owner/breeder.

Yes, 99.9% of dogs who act a certain way shows the work of the owner. A controlled dog that has aggressive tendencies and who obeys an owner shows that the owner has taken the proper measures. On the other hand, a dog that has behavioral problems shows that it obviously lacks proper pack structure. This is the fault of the owner. I have a rescue Malinois, who was out of control when I first got him. I forced-fed myself with TONS of info about dog training and pack behavior from experienced dog trainers. Now, he's a very obedient dog, and the urge of wanting to chase cats is now under control. When I say "No", he knows that he better stop the silly-ness or he's going to get a correction from a prong collar. My sister has a pitbull, and it's very submissive. Sometimes he starts to act silly, and I have to correct him for my sister. He's a safe dog to be around with, and so is her neighbor's pitbull.

Pit Bulls are bred for pit fighting. They are bred to kill the other dog not to make it submit. When this aggression is mis-guided and put onto humans they aim to kill the child/person. You cannot deny this. The facts are on record. Pitbulls are the number one dog for killing humans in both America and England.
You can tell my that they are loving, loyal and friendly to their family pack and I would agree 100%. However,
They are not so loyal, loving and friendly to dogs and people they do not know. You obviously will disagree but that's okay, it does not change facts These dogs are dangerous. I hope personally that they get banned in all countries. OH and by the way the only two pitbulls I have come across have both tried to attack my dog. Proof if ever I needed it that this breed is aggressive.

I own an American Pitt Bull dog and he is just a big ( 80 lbs) love able baby! He lives indoors and is gentle, it is all in how the owner raises any pet. Discipline at an early age and teaching the pet( just like a child )is the key to good pet manners. The Pitt has a bad rap because of the owners who train them to be mean, which is by the way animal cruelty. Yes, Pitts have to be trained to fight it is NOT a natural instinct. Yes, I do hate animal cruelty.

My problem with Pit Bulls?
Selective breeding does work quite well. Unfortunately too many Pit Bulls and other breeds have been bred for aggression in recent years.
I always avoid what I term the current macho breed. The breed tends to be corrupted by those who have dogs for all the wrong reasons. At one point it was German Shepards, then it was Dobermans, now it's the Pit Bulls and Rotweillers.
I can attest that Pit Bulls were once a fine breed; but, you're completely blind if you can't see how badly the breed has been corrupted by wrong headed selective breeding.

human aggression + dog aggression are 2 different things. just because a dog may show some aggression to another dog, does in NO WAY mean he will be that way to humans.

They have never done anything to me. I have known a few and think that soem are nice and some are not, just like any other breed. What people need to realize is that THEY WERE BRED for fighting. It amazes me when I read comments like one person here who says "they are not bred to fight" Yes, they are. YOU CANNOT TEACH a dog anything it does not want to do. The drives for the work need to be there. Other wise you have a sub-standard dog. Pit bulls were bred to fight bulls in the ring and later on they started them fighting dogs. That was their original purpose in life. People need to accept that and stop talking about the breeders or the owners that "are mean" to the dogs and all that crap. When you buy a dog like that, you have to accept the responsibility for the dogs INBORN drives.

Let's completely kill them cause that's the answer. lol or not!!
Or we could start doing our part to save our beloved part by reporting the people who look to be abusing this breed. If a dog looks to thin,is left out doors with no shelter, no food/water, no tags, scars or open wounds, multiple back yard dogs, frequent visitors with dogs of their own call the human society till they take them away!! Stop complaining about it and start helping to get these dog out of irresponsible hands in in to good homes.
