Would you consider the Bible to be the only reliable source of therapy and counsel? If so, explain using scriptural findings please. (Serious Question!)

Yes, I would consider the Bible to be the only reliable source of therapy and counsel because not only does it contain moral principles and laws, there are also laws pertaining to our very being.

In particular, the Bible contains the laws of the mind. An effective therapist or counselor must understand something about how the mind works. The Creator of the mind knows the most about the mind.

If the therapist or counselor is applying the Biblical laws of the mind to assist in helping his or her client, the potential for permanent success increases.

Man's words, if of any value, echo the words of God.

Examples of laws of the mind;

Laws of Thoughts

A person is essentially the sum total of his thoughts. All our actions and words flow from our thoughts.

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he:

Self-deception begins in the mind and results from the wrong estimation of oneself

Galatian 6:3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

The mind was created to be filled with only good things.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.

There is much, much more in the Bible along with physical laws, the laws of health, spiritual laws, etc.

I would consider it to be the only authoritative source...but, not the only source there is. I, for one, use various sources for counsel and instruction (Pilgrim's Progress & The Valley of Vision being a couple of non-biblical examples). But, the Bible is always the one I would use as a measuring stick to examine the other sources to make sure there's nothing that contradicts it.

I truly believe that in the Bible you can find all the answers to morality, the way God expects us to live our life and what role we play, as well as a better understanding of our God. But you have to know where to look & be able to understand what you are reading. Sometimes that can be difficult...(as well as humbling). When my husband & I had problems within our marriage we sought a Christian counselor, you didn't have to be a Christian to go to her, as my husband was Catholic (not practicing though.) when we began seeing her. She had all her regular college degrees & certificates, but her approach was from a Christian point of view. Her guidance & wisdom not only helped our marriage, but also showed the light of truth to my husband we are both Christians now, and he is so thankful because his miracle was that it saved our marriage.

Also I find good guidance in books with a theme that use & explain scripture. When we were having marriage problems I got this book titled The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace...In it she explains the role and purpose for the wife, in all aspects... I found its explanation of sin & idolatry extremely helpful. For the fist time I understood it. The Bible is a great source of knowledge but sometimes you need someone (a counselor) or something (another book) to show you where to find what you need within its pages. I hope this helps!

Nope. Belief in the bible has caused nothing but pain in history (read a history book sometime), and its falsehoods and contradictions are not to be taken lightly. You might as well say Harry Potter is real because it has about as much fact behind it as the bible.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the word was God Himself. He (Christ) was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. John 1:1-3
